Does the ugly label on your Pathfinder canteen set eventually burn off? Does the black soot come off without your scratching the metal up?I just got that set, but my cup has no holes in the top to attach the bottle-holder to. Did you drill those yourself? And the cuts in the lid - you did those, too?

I saw a black broiler set today at the thrift store that looked like I could put coals in the bottom of it and place the flat part on top of that to make a make-shift heavy-duty grill or stove to use at home. It even looked fine for using in a solar oven because it was thin enough and black. Do you have any metal pot/pan modification videos where you make them into stoves?

1. Your Anvil is too far from forge 2. Remove glove from hammer hand 3.work steel at bright orange or dull yellow 4. Bring Hammer higher 5.dont take so long from fire to anvil no need to brush before hammering unless looking for a punch mark 6. That Ball peen is too light for that material 7.your wrong handed (JK about this one)😂

You started the timer long before you put the pot on the stove.

Some models have you dribble a ring of fuel around the inside edge of the burner followed by an "X" pattern on top of the burner. Others, like your and mine have us trun it upside down. I really don't think it matters unless there's a new wick that needs priming. I dribble about 2 oz of fuel on top of the burner and it works fine.

👍👍👍 .. nice. Using what you've got and a bit of lateral thinking. Another advantage is that it is already paid for. Manufacturers and Sellers of 'Gear' will always try and convince one the one cannot function without what they have on offer (quite understandable .. that's business). I'm in favour of 'contained fires'. Here in Switzerland, even during periods where there are no fire restrictions in the forest, the Authorities have absolutely no sense of humour with those who set their trees on fire .. eye-watering fines being, in such cases, the order of the day. A preference for 'retro' gear .. all credit to you Sir. As a 'Baby Boomer' myself (YOB 1950), I tend to keep and use gear bought many moons back. As long as it does the job, it's good. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

I see several versions of that knife on the website. What version do you have there and which one would you recommend. Dude that's a knife. No wimpy wannabe. Bit pricey, but quality costs. I clicked because I see you doing what I do. Never had the metal plate. Just cleared a spot of ground. That metal plate is nice. Do you sell those? No shop to Make my own.

Does this type of forge(table forge) work for crucible work as well for casting? I wanna start working in metals and I like the design of the table forges I've seen along with that I want a versatile forge.

If you run a wire (12 gauge copper is fine) from the front posts to the back rod, it can be used with a Trangia, or a soda can stove. The wire forms bottom to that space, and doesn't interfere with folding.

I like this stove and have owned/used them over the years. The plate on the bottom seems like a great hack to hold a Trangia or other small heat source. However, I have a concern using wood in a thin-walled aluminum stove. It seems that there is the potential to burn/melt the stove if the fire is too hot. Anyone have thoughts on that? In my experience, after making a fire in a small twig stove, I let the fire die down to embers so it doesn't' blacken my pots and pans. That's a lot of heat for thin aluminum. IMHO Thoughts?
