I liked the Irish Dancing , and Failing 6 times on driver's test answers the best. I attended St. Thomas More school in Alhambra in the 1950s and 60s, and one of the girls in my class, Kathy Riley, would do Irish dancing at the school assemblies.

Eleanor: it looks like you got some coaching on micr. technique in the latter portion of your feature. Your first CU = micr. too close to your mouth; 2nd CU: much better = microph. below your chin = visually much better.
@timmellin2815
@timmellin2815 Ай бұрын
Kyleen: pull the top of the micr. down under your chin. It's viscerally satisfying to you to "eat the micr." but it's not visually satisfying to your audience.. Check the way Dr. Dillman holds the micr....see how much better that looks ? The Dana students had good micr. technique as well.

Good feature w/ Dr. Munoz: I didn't realize that the wood is the same. Is it the same wood floor that was originally installed back in the 1950s ?

microphone technique: Dr. Munoz = more visually pleasing to your audience to have space between the top of the micr. and what you are pointing it at; so your picture is good and visually pleasing; therefore, Bettina: pull the top of the micr. down under your chin (top of micr. always under the chin is a good rule of thumb (or rule of chin..) Ditto Coach Nick: good micr. technique. Nick: you are borderline on micr. technique but stil get a passing grade for it.

Ayden and Al: Nice intro w/ good micr. technique as top of micr. was under the chin 97 percent of the time. Ayden: good micr. techn. Al: best micr. technique for visual presentation for your audience. Kiana: good question for Tim and very interesting factoid about reporting to practice at 5:30 a.m. due to heat ! Very informative...that's the type of info. that draws your audience in. Tim: good camera sense to make eye contact w/ audience....shows some media savvy. Most athletes don't have that. Kiana: pull the top of your micr. under your chin and under Tim's chin all the time. "I think you've done enough talking" was a good way to transition to the play by play people: good job on being prepared with a good script. Nice visual transition to band on the field. Nice fades and cutaways and pans of the band and the Arcadia colorguard logo and overhead shot of band exiting the field. Good shots of cheerleaders during the fight song. I was expecting an introduction of your game announcers, but they didn't introduce themselves and just went into the play by play. I don't think you need a crowd noise microphone....it interferes w/ the on air announcers. Either that or fade the crowd noise down so that crowd audio is less than the announcers. Crowd noise audio level should always be underneath the announcers. Ayden: good post game analysis as I didn't watch the game much, but your post game analysis gave me a good picture of what had happened. Keep up the good work. tm.

Lily Pisano = good micr. technique......looks good that the top of the micr. is always underneath the chin line. Good job. Ditto for Kyle Gonzales' feature and interviews. Freshman faceoff = a fun feature....just work on micr. technique....always more visually satisfying to the viewer to keep the top of the micr. underneath the chin line. Night market feature had my mouth watering.....great comprhensive feature that touched iin depth on lots of items....: good job !...but...Kyleen and Riana: same comment....pull the top of the micr. under the chin line. Tennis reporter Kiana: pull the micr. down under your chin. See how your studio host does that correctly as she leads into your story. Overall = good first show, but why no guys in the studio audience ?

Very good intro ! Good info: the hosts were prepared and didn't stumble at all; that was obvious. Good micr. technique for visual presentation as the top of the microphones were usually below the chin. The cutaways to the player intro pictures were fine. Good pre game cutaway MS of the Apache players fidlling w/ the volleyballs. Then you went back to WS and I suggest more of those MS shots of the warmups....that draws the viewer into the action more. The CU as the girls lined up to jam the ball = excellent ! Then you did a quick cutaway to MS...another angle and then back to the CU = outstanding idea. Then following the player back to the lineup w/ player closeup = good. Moving CU of player cicle = good. Also good cutaway from that to visiting team's circle too. First break: Camila lost her good micr. technique by jamming the micr. up close to her mouth.....work on showing excitement but still keeping the micr. under the chin anyway. Ditto for your postgame extro micr. placement. The comment about play stoppage "something wrong w/ our new floor." Don't just drop that comment.....add your speculation about what the issue might be.....new floor too slippery, moisture on floor, how long it might take to break the new floor in so it's not slippery, etc....I liked the "Claremont was not talking" comment.....an alternate way of indicating mis-communication. It would be good to get a roster of the opposing team so you can identify who is serving instead of just announcing that person's number. Good post game interview, but a more pleasing closing 2 shot would be for the camera to pedestal up to a higher angle of the girls.

Great addition to show the girl banging on the door, trying to get into the prom. Cutaways like that (and her magical switch into black prom dress) really add spice to a feature. Very well done. Heny: back off from the microphone a bit....pull it lower so it's completely below your chin. I've been impressed w/ Aaron Serrano's sports reporting all year.....he seems to have a natural affinity for the craft. Is he planning on pursuing it in the future ?

Good light hearted feature at the L.A. County Fair.....the only thing I'd add would be an interview w/ the conductor & / or the players. Brianna's micir. technique is very good.....good to see space between the top of the micr. and her neck....brava ! (The improv shot in background w/ the kid getting his yearbook and jogging away was very timely.....was it planned, or spur of the moment ? Lyla......pull the micr. down so the top of it is under your chin. Quite a different retrospective from my own 1998 Arcadian yearbook, where there was only one retro writeup by the Editor Sue Edgar: "Regretfully relieved, another year ends..." Thanks for the great Memorial Day feature ! Shreas.....good micr. technique and good feature on the Pops Concert. The on camera sleep feature vis a vis the "summer activities" reports was pretty hilarious. Ronan Leader is a leader in demonstrating good microphone technique. Ronan: also good concise writing describing your tennis team and its' accomplishments. In studio tennis interview: the floor director should have coached the players on correct micr. technique prior to shooting the scene. Is it my imagination, or has Ms. Zhang improved in her own micr. technique, from previous weeks ?? Not quite perfect yet, but much improved ! Also Ms. Zhang: diction: should be "what improvements" not "whuh improomits."

My usual criticism: some shots had the micr. too close to the people's faces. Good rule of thumb for microphone placement: 😢crossing into the chin/ face area: never; Under the chin: good; Under the neck: better. This short feature had both good micr. technique and bad micr. technique

Mr. Volpe: pull the micr. a little lower so the top of the micr. is under your chin: more visually pleasing to your audience to have space between the top of the micr. and what it's being pointed at. You can also tilt it forward a bit, so it's not angled towards your neck. Vivian: ditto for you on micr. placement. Of all on that feature, Lucas had it most correct; (though he could pull the micr. down just a bit, too.) Percussion Camp intro: it's "Day Ton" Ohio, not "Day Uhn" Ohio. Tracy Tian: ditto for you on micr. technique: pull back on your micr. Kevin Sherrill obviously got the micr. technique correct, since his band is all about visual presentation. Performers Lana and Sabrina on Coachella video board could also use some coaching on micr. technique. Grace: ditto for you on "too close to the micr." Caroline Zhang: ditto for you. Actually, your floor director should be the one to coach you on that, prior to rolling the tape. Michelle Fan's close up was perfect on microphone technique and visual look.....her CU / head / was a bit to the left, in the frame, giving the impression that her words were "flying forward" for the viewer. Sonny: ditto for you, pull the micr. down so it's under your chin. You have it right, sometimes, and sometimes, not so right. Karthik and Vansh have it right....good for them !

Open 2 shot: Very good and well prepared intro. w/ good micr. technique, holding the top of the micr. under the chin. Also, good attention to what's on the screen graphic: "you see C.V....." ..."you see his stat line right there...." shows attention to what the viewer is seeing. 2 Shot: good eye contact w/ camera while reading the stats = more good attention to detail. As game progressed: crowd noise audio a bit too loud; interferes w/ the 2 announcers. When you do a video replay, say something like: "let's take another look at that bunt that moved the runner to 2d base....." That's a better presentation technique, rather than just letting the video track, while you talke about something else. Overall, from what I've seen in the first few minutes of this: much much better and professional presentation than what I've seen previously. Keep up the good work.

In studio interview feature w/ the track stars was very good. Micr. handoff was smooth (like a track relay handoff) so my guess was that they were coached on that prior to the taping. Good job, all !

Sonny: Your micr. technique has improved a lot ! You are finally starting to put more visually pleasing space between the top of your micr. and your lips. Keep working on that. Amel: you need to work on that. You hold the micr. correctly when you are not talking, but when you are on micr., you push the micr. too close to your mouth. Always keep the top of the micr. under the chin area, for a more satisfying visual presentation to your viewing audience.
