Beautiful! I am a director of school plays and will be building one of these for an upcoming Grimm’s Fairytales play around Halloween. A could questions… 1) Does that rubber mallet have a name? Is it a common percussion mallet or some other object being used for this? That plus the bow (plus your hands themselves) really does the trick. 2) Were you using anything other than reverb and looping pedals? How many looping tracks were you running at the most? On other, similar devises, having a way to create ongoing drones underscoring the rest really elevates this from a novelty sfx box to something that could actually create a complete sound to underscore a scene. I definitely want to employ that. I’ve now seen it done with the hand-cranked wheel and a pair of DC motors vibrating a single string. I like this option too.

@@stevenslaughter8473 hi Steven! Thanks for your comment! To answer your questions, that rubber mallet is initially made for gongs , it's called Olli Hess e-Gong rubber:) Concerning the effects used in this video, if I remember correctly, I was only using a looper (Tensor) into a lo-fi reverb (Météore) into a feedback generator (freqOut). I don't remember the number of layers, I was overdubbing sounds while playing the box!

0:35 sounds like a ambient version of the unsolved mysteries theme. Really nice tones and atmosphere.

Really nice work! I see a few things that give me ideas to add on to my box as well, the ebow is definitely a must have at this point.

hey! What is the audio routing here? from contact mics to koma, then to pedals, then back to koma? after that koma and digi is mixed in mixer, that we can't see on the video? I would be very thankful for answer ;)

This is excellent. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a pre-amp for the 2 piezos, or are you plugging them directly into your interface? Thanks!
@secrecy_works2 ай бұрын
There's so much to take in here! I only started playing with piezos a few months ago, and YT wants to throw something like this at me?! The soundscape is immersive, layered, and intoxicating, with contributions from many ingenious implements. The box is beautiful, and it's a wonder to witness your wizardry with it. It is interesting to me the intriguing visual appeal these devices take on as amalgams of disparate elements chosen primarily for their acoustic properties. The tape loop and free-floating speaker are brilliant additions, and the entire ensemble of equipment is a fascinating thing to behold. This is both humbling and inspiring. Amazing product and production!

cool idea to have odd sounds amplified by a box into a transducer into an amp then add reverb to it in the mix or whatever effects you want. That spring in the lower middle is really cool. It wobbles a long time and has a raspy sound to it.

Hey amigo great performance, I might be the responsible for much of your views on this one jaja! Im curious to know how is the mallet you stroke with is called? How might I find one? Been looking for something like this since the video of ryuichi s performing at the glass house (totally recomended).

Hi! Thanks for your message! I also love Ryuichi's performance at the Glass House! The mallet is a gong rubber mallet called Holi Hess if I remember correctly, you can find it on Thomann !

Please make the first whiny (looped) noise quieter next time. 1) It starts looking a bit fake, at first, before viewer realizes it's a "composition". 2) It's more annoying that scary, when you can't hear the other scary noises over it.
