'Fortune Teller' was actually the B-side to 'Lipstick Traces' - and was originally released in the UK by Benny Spellman on the London record label in 1962. It was written by Allen Toussaint under his sister's name [Naomi Neville]. Indeed, Toussaint regularly used that pseudonym. An absolutely massive 'Mod' sound back in the day, it also became very popular in Soul clubs [eg: Twisted Wheel in Manchester, Catacombs Wolverhampton, Blackpool Mecca etc] in the late '60's/early 70's and on the Northern Soul scene. A classic slab of 'uptempo' soul - will forever be one of my all-time favourites.

Why is "Trombone Shorty" better on trumpet than me (a trumpet player). Doesn't seem fair really!

Roberts early 80's stuff is so totally brilliant i don't think he's ever been able to top that. I jus heard 1969 Led Zeppelin opening for SPIRIT at the Fillmore, the Zep did a knarly nasty version of 1968 Spirit tune, "Fresh Garbage." Its so mangled you can hardly tell what the song is.

A brilliant guitarplayer, but also a wonderful vocalist.I`ve listened to RT since the late 60`s. Still gives me goose bumps listening to his songs. Seen him 5 times live, just wonderful, with or without band. I guess RT will be me until I pass away, even played in my funeral. Thank God for Richard Thompson.

Never seen true detective but The Handsome Family is one of my favorite bands of all time, all of their songs have these strange unique feelings to them and the lyrics are always poetic. Love driving down forested backroads while listening to them

"could you please introduce me to your son." Glad he did cuz i was blessed enough to see Lydia open for JTE at the Troubador in Hollywood. Random Tuesday show with a less than packed house for 2 God dammed unreal performers. There will always be a huge hole in music and my heart without Justin.

Well, I know I'm commenting on a seven year old video, but I just wanted to say that I've been binging the Handsome Family lately because I saw True Detective years ago and the song resonated with me. So yeah, they have a fan from the UK who's never been to America because of True Detective; I hope they find that cool too.

Much love to Miss Mavis Staples and Pops Staples. My father used to own a small cafe in Oklahoma in 1959. On night after the restaurant closed my father found a young black man hiding in the back of the restaurant. He was bloodied up from the police. The young black man told my father his story and my father believed him. My father drove this young man to safety after cleaning him up. My father and mother never said a discouraging word about any other race.
