Great info! Thank you so much for this. I have a tiny home studio and have been trying to figure out how to not overwork my computer system drive. Do you find any latency issues when it's pulling stuff off of a external SSD/HD vs your computer?

The best type of eq is the digital one who compensate any signal gain or reduce from eq curves, keeping volume the same.

Hey Josh, I really enjoyed your walk through of the recording process for Taylor's song. I have a small home studio; as a musician, composer, producer, I have recently started releasing some of my music. Thank you for sharing your approach, and I look forward to watching and learning from more of the videos on your channel, and incorporating some of your techniques. Much appreciated!

I own a commercial 3000 sq ft studio with a Neve desk etc….I built and paid for all of it. I always wonder how someone this young is able to tackle a project this huge and fund it. I can’t imagine how much this all cost to buy this place and refurbish it they way they did. Excellent excellent job.

For producers, if it is not ghostwriting, how much percentage of the PRO split would you negotiate ? And for ghostwriting, are you normally allowed to add it in your social media or private producer alias?
@simplefruitsMTVАй бұрын
And when you exclude the vocal mix and full song mastering, do you have some sort of a mastering chain on your instrumental mix? Or you include both pre-mastered and mastered instrumental mix? What's the standard practice ?
@lovesciencemusicАй бұрын
It can vary - standard is 50/50 between producers and lyricist/melody writers. But if it’s a big opportunity with a bigger artist then it can be worth it to take less to get foot in door with something
@lovesciencemusicАй бұрын
Def check with artists or labels to see about posting to social
@lovesciencemusicАй бұрын
I print 4 mix versions: full version, instrumental, tv mix, acapella. Once everyone signs off on the mixes then i master them all together as a separate process. That what you mean?
@simplefruitsMTVАй бұрын
@@lovesciencemusic So the standard practice is if the artist didn't write the song, means usually they get 0% of split from PRO? unless if they are higher level artist and nego for an exception...

Imho most eq mistakes come from incorrect balancing. It's easier to apply correct eq if the basic balance is good.

Just discovered Taylor Eigsti recently -- very cool to get a peek behind the curtain. I would love to hear about the session(s?) used to create the "Bucket of F's (Official Music Video)" on Eigsti's channel. It has a totally different energy than the album version, it would be very interesting to get your BTS insights!
@lovesciencemusicАй бұрын
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. Taylor is amazing - i don’t have any footage from behind the scenes in that session. But it was tracked completely live in the studio, no overdubs. They played more with a live show energy instead of a restrained studio approach, and it was all filmed in real time

Use of Visual (Spectrum Analyzed) EQ's are murder for novice mixers and many intermediate mixers.. Mostly too many Bell notches, Q's often too narrow. Most tracks only need a little bit of a broad shelf Hi/Low, and maybe some mild high pass. A little bit of tilt eq before anything can get the job done much of the time.

This is not about mixing but how do I increase my vocal range from G5 to A5 in singing. lol
@lovesciencemusic2 ай бұрын
I’m no vocal coach, but you’ll def need to do singing exercises every day, even just 10 min/day will help a lot. And learn about how to breathe correctly as a singer, that’s huge

YOU'RE MORE OF THEORIES NOT IN PRACTICAL. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE EXPERIENCE AND WHAT THEY DO TO MAKE THEIR SONG GREAT..VST COMING OUT EVERYDAY IS THE KILLER OF OUR YOUNG GENERATION MUSIC ENGINEERS. I UNDERSTAND YOUR VIEWS AND POINTS.. BUT ITS TOO LATE FOR THIS GENERATION OF AI ENGINEERS 😂😂😂

@lovesciencemusic For me it isnt that..I have spend 16years 7hours..everyday to lean VSTS trust me there are some Vst you may not even know.. but the thing is that these companies dont create VSTS that are universally adaptable to audio work flows ..audio could have been more promising if companies create templates and mix buses ..and master chains with the professionals and make it bundle packs for people ..but they are profit making in rebranding VSTS everyday ..AI is good but it can be better if it's a solution at the right places in audio .. equalizer to compression should be human decision..why Ai should be a master or mixbus judge..

i kinda take it personally when he lists the mistakes, mistake number 1, i go "eek thats me" mistake number 2 "i know i know im working on it" etc. I produce edm, mid-tempo, psy-trance, house, etc. so id like to think when the time comes to having my music on big speaker systems where the mix is crucial, I will have the means to send my stems to professionals for them to take care of the mix and master
