I started my working life in the area, now at 68 seeing the houses and buildings is a reminder of how fortunate I was to pull up sticks and leave the UK. On grey days the place is dreary, drab and soul destroying. Good little video.

I have fond memories of Leicester as a child (born in 1956), we lived in the Anstey Lane area (Beaumont Leys). Winters were completed with snow and as I got older the winters seemed to get warmer in the 70's. The white of snow turned to grey brown muddy wet cold horrible slush, by 1980 I'd had enough. In 1981 I left Leicester behind as it offered me nothing to look forward to, I never bothered looking back. I wound up making a home for myself in Norway. It's mid October and the frost is already here. I changed my car summer tires to winter tires last week as ice can form and hide on the roads to start the day with...customising your car on ice is not recommended. The serious snow usually falls late December to March and it can get pretty cold, minus 15 - 20c is common enough, often it's too cold to snow. Snow in the UK is OK but the real deal is in Scandinavia, incidentally the summers are warmer over here. The great thing about snow is that our garden looks like everybody else's ha! Lovely video by the way, thank you.❄☃

Does anyone know why in the past all the white English people left this place?

Please slow down each shot, as you're moving too quickly. It would be nice to take the time to see what shops are there and take in the memories - thanks.

@@mooh7471 Thanks for watching.. My video is just a short clip showing the outline of the area and nothing more. Cheers.

I was confused as to why the clock tower was showing nearly 2pm, yet everywhere was shut and the streets deserted. Surely the snow didn't cause that? But then I suddenly remembered the Covid lockdowns, as evidenced later in the video with the popup testing facility at Jubilee Gardens. What a weird time that was. I remember it all vividly, but it kinda feels now like some sort of dream. Anyway, magnificent snowman at the DMU. And I notice one also in construction at the Town Hall.

Oh I spotted me and I'm not sure why it's 99% white I feel it could be due to alot of reasons as even though it's 2024 people off different races telgi9ns and stuff can still have strong opnions against the lgbt and their kids being part of it. I wish more people of colour had the confidence to join.
