Hardly any of those traders kept trading. They just knocked all that down and rebuilt it for the big businesses.

Nice to hear young folks speaking the Queen's English, not so common nowadays.

Funny, I grew up knowing this area and seeing it change. Here's the thing, I was 16 in 1990 and leaving school and getting a job. There was very much a sense of childhood being over and the next phase of my life starting, and at the same time they were tearing down the backdrop of my childhood (Bakers, Wimpy, Oven Ready, Woollies) and building something new. It seemed rather poignant. I didn't live in Aylesbury, but I was born there and visited most weeks to go shopping or visit my family who lived in the town.

@DIGITALSCREAMS "Ah yes...and I have just remembered the walk up to this open area ....involved walking through a tunnel. The tunnel wasnt fully enclosed...but it was narrow and channeled the icy cold and dusty/gritty wind right into your face. I wonder if anyone else remembers that!. Also, it was sloped from top to bottom...which was perfect for skateboarders and kids on bikes trying to run you over. lol" Cool...the tunnel bit I was referring to can be seen from 6mins 27seconds onwards

This is history.... I love watching genuine 'on the street' footage taken by normal people. It has a certain realness to it...

Seems very current what the chap says about small businesses, here we are 21 years later and nothing has changed, in fact it appears to be even worse them certainly in Aylesbury at least.

3:40 Oven Ready Records re-opened in Kingsbury Square, and remained in business for about another 12 years, closing in about 2002/03...
