You don’t usually see this level of skill and control in HEMA. This is quite a pleasure to watch.

A lot of recent tournaments have too much emphasis on scoring and a lot of the participants lose any sense of control/self preservation.

Possibly, but the swords here are shorter, lighter, and better optimized for cutting. The bolognese school predates the rapier.

@@spicketspaghet7773 Indeed it would. On a somewhat different tangent it would be cool to see a movie tackle pre-Edo Japan, the well known Samurai imagery is mostly based on the Samurai high culture of the Edo period.

Focus on parrying, but also focus on footwork. But not bad. Practice and keep studying historical european martial arts combos and half-swording techniques. Overtime, you'll learn new ways of feinting, and using your judgment and footwork to fight better. And become a much more skilled sword hema practitioner overtime.

Kendo vs HEMA always looks like to me Orthadox vs Southpaw boxing. HEMA is Southpaw usually you see them looking more flashy, using range and exploiting openings. Kendo is Orthadox more stiff looking, always prefering more shorter bursts of attacks that can be corrected faster.

he doesnt have that limited visibility, he just has a plate that covers the upper part of the fencing mask, which is where you get hit in the head most of the time. if you look closely you can see that its still steel mesh at the front.

Do you mean if I practiced one of the German traditions I would have a longer sword, or that I would be a better swordsperson?
@theodosioskantasmd73886 жыл бұрын
Jesse Kulla I mean you wouldn’t try to thrust as much and you d use cuts to to deflect cuts instead of cycling through the guard. I don’t claim to be an expert or top competitor but even fiore states that due to the suddeness of the melee combat posta or guardia is practically the same, used to attack while not being attacked and not static parrying. You ll find static parrying doesn’t work as well with long sword as in say saber. Just because you put your sword in nebenhut (posta di gengliaro) and thrust a bit I wouldn’t call that Italian swordsmanship.
@jessekulla67726 жыл бұрын
@@theodosioskantasmd7388 interesting. Cuts often do deflect cuts. This was my first fight with this man, and I with more xp at the time. The first bkiw I landed was a cut. The player gave me little to work with in the way if parry and response, and largely denies me any kind of bind in the fight. 1:44 he hits me. Past my guard, his shorter sword slipping in as I over-parry. As a long time player of italian martial arts I can say we mainly cut to set up thrusts. Its the main function of (dente di chingiaro) boars tooth, or low left side point forward.
@theodosioskantasmd73886 жыл бұрын
Jesse Kulla cool lecturing style. If you were to study German fencing which is fundamentally no different to fiore you d see that a cut can do so much more than set up a thrust which only the zornhau ort does in that tradition. That guard is called nebenhut in the German tradition. I suggest you read ringeck’s plays from the nebenhut before fencing or putting up a video wrongfully demonstrating an art.
@theodosioskantasmd73886 жыл бұрын
lol and that posta di bicorno being all static. in german this is the einhorn and you never wanna hold a position like that. your opponent being a rookie fencer is what got you out of there. if you ever adopt einhorn statically vs. an experienced swordsman he knows what you re gonna do next. As lichtenauer said fence from four guards and disdain the common.
