@@mavb5686 Thank you for sharing your memories. Despite being a popular game in Asia, Spikeout was not well known in North America so I think you were very lucky to have access to it. I only discovered this game about 4 years ago and although I greatly enjoy the single-player experience, Spikeout is most fun when played in an arcade with friends so I am glad you were able to experience that.

You can play it on ps5! They added it as an arcade minigame in : Like a dragon infinite wealth! You just have to go to an arcade room and play it! Look for it on youtube as a demonstration and you will find it

How to get this game and emulator? This is one of my favourite arcade games ever
@Dragon307

A full port of Spikeout Final Edition is included as an arcade minigame in the newest Yakuza series entry, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. While it's a good port overall, the biggest problem for experienced players is that it doesn't allow you to choose the hard or hardest difficulty levels (it also runs slightly faster than real hardware). If those harder difficulty levels are important to you then the other option is to use an emulator called Supermodel to emulate games that run on the Sega Model 3 hardware. This emulator can be quite difficult to setup correctly but if you search for "Supermodel emulator" on youtube you should find at least a couple tutorials that can walk you through the process. Here's a recent tutorial that seems to have the easiest and most up-to-date instructions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqWxfmuhl9V4fM0

Is there a guide on the different routes? It's surprisingly hard for me to find solid information on that in spite of how much route variation there seems to be
@Dragon307
@Dragon307 Жыл бұрын
I don't know of any guide but most of the alternate paths come in the form of exits you can choose after beating a boss. There is usually a "long" and a "short" route for each stage, and in the case of Astro Mall and Diesel town there are a couple sub-routes that can make the short route longer or the long route shorter. The long route through a stage usually has 1-3 more boss fights to get through, but both routes use the same bosses just in different and often unique areas with different enemy placement and variety. These changes can have a huge effect on the difficulty so both routes feel very distinct. Sometimes the game tells you about the alternate exits and sometimes it doesn't, so be sure to look around for any flashing doors after a boss fight even if there is no arrow pointing in that direction. Perhaps the hardest alternate exit to figure out requires you to beat the final boss in Astro Mall (Ryuji) without killing any of the smaller enemies that spawn with him. Doing so will take you to Ship Yard instead of Imperial Opera. While it's impossible to see everything in one playthrough (Mall has a unique boss pair if you go the short route through the parking lot as well as the unique areas that exist in every stage) you can get pretty close by following this route: Spikers Island --> Diesel Town to Victor, then go through the hidden exit to the sewer -> Beat Huey, Louie, and Dewey and exit into the warehouse -> Fight the final boss duo, Elliot and Justin, on the basketball court --> Astro Mall to Wang, then take the semicircular door to the toy store -> beat the final boss Ryuji without killing anyone else --> Long route through Shipyard (your route through Shipyard gets chosen automatically so no choices to make here) --> Imperial Opera to Blake, Clay, and Muir, then take the alternate exit on the right side of the opera house Hope this helps, maybe I'll make a video of all the routes some day. Thanks for watching.

@@Dragon307 Thank you so much for the reply! This helps clarify a lot of the questions I've been having; most sources I find only discuss the basic sewers > Astro Mall route, and there's a couple secret exits I only learned about from watching more 1CC videos (like the route where you fight Elliot and Justin back at the street with the sewer exit). I was thumbing through a bunch of videos trying to figure out what people were actually doing to go Astro Mall > Shipyard - I wasn't able to discern visible route differences, so I assumed it was something to do with continues used or time taken or score or something; I definitely would not have figured out the actual method on my own, clearing out the enemies around the boss is my usual tactic for getting through bosses. Is there an equivalent Shipyard > Astro Mall route, or is the Ryuji exit the only way to do all five stages?
@Dragon307

@@EggmanDrCuckooMan Yea there is a route from Ship Yard to Astro Mall I had just forgotten about it. Similar to the Ryuji requirements, you need to defeat the final boss of Ship Yard, Keiser, without killing any of the other enemies. You can see an example in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKiQnINvrMmFjdE It's no easy feat though. Keiser is a much harder fight than Ryuji and the layout of the area means it's basically impossible to get him isolated unless you're playing with others. There is a strategy used in the speedruns of this game that allows you to instantly kill Keiser by clipping him through the stairs but takes some practice to pull off.

I see the moves that they ended up giving Mine for Yakuza 3.

Many of the animations and moves in Spikeout were taken from Sega AM2's earlier games, specifically Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers which were also on the model 3 arcade system, so I'm sure you could find more Yakuza similarities in those games too. This was near the height of SEGA's success and they clearly spent a lot of time and money making the animations look good so its nice to see they've had such a long life in many different games. Thanks for watching!
