I had a similar noise on my ea888 Gen 3 in my 2014 GLI. The chain was lengthened. $3000 fix, but some noise remains. Which seems to be the N205 . Which is the Cam adjuster also called spool valve. It's about $700 job

Nope. Sold that piece of shit. Mechanics suspects the timing chain tensioner is about to fail and timing chain is rubbing against other parts. Too expensive to fix for a 10+ year old car
