Elmer Fudd would have been a fantastic Count Dracula.

One would wonder why to put mirrors in your castle, and especially in your guest's room if you know they won't reflect you

This is the only book faithful Dracula movie where Dracula actually looks like his book counterpart: a tall old man with a mustache who de-ages as he feasts on blood.

For the curious, the reason Dracula does not have a reflection in the mirror has been subject to debate. At present there are at least 3 theories on the subject: 1) light is said to “pass through” vampires and as such, will not generate a reflection in the mirror 2) mirrors are said to reflect one’s soul, and becuase vampires do not have souls, they don’t have reflections 3) old mirrors contained silver, which was said to have holy properties and thus the reflection of a vampire would “burn up” in said mirror

"The shadows of my past remain here..."...Christopher Lee's acting, stage presence and delivery are PHENOMENAL....it was so sad he was ROBBED of the incredible set design that Bela Lugosi had at his disposal

I rewatched the movie after remembering hating it. It's not too terrible, but it definitely loses points for the terribly fake sets (especially the rooms of Dracula's castle), and awful effects (the fake bats and truly terrible scene of Dracula "burning" at the end of the film). It also doesn't help that the usually very reliable Klaus Kinski does not utter a word as Renfield. Oh, and Franco could not direct for crap as there are all kinds of strange zooms and closeups that make no sense and distract from the film.

People thought Christopher was heavily into the Occult and he would be given books on the subject. He was actually a born again Christian and he didn't like the association. He gave an interview where he warned people not to mess with magic and demons. Vincent Price was also a Christian. I'm pretty sure Peter Cushing was, too.

Trivia: Sir Christopher Lee (Count Dracula) and Herbert Lom (Dr. Van Helsing) never saw each other during filming. They shot all of their joint scenes separately.

To me Christopher Lee was always Dracula first and foremost. Being Saurman and Count Dooku are from later times. But to me, he is the ultimate evil of Dracula, Prince of Darkness. His Voice...I think that Lee in his personal life met the darkness head on. He always warned everyone against seeking it. First you will loose your mind...then you will loose your soul, is what he said.

My great grandfather was a magyar patriot. Magyar to the core. I showed my wife an old photo of him, and she said that he looks like Dracula. Masculine, pointy ears, and a tough jaw-line with bony facial features.
