Stumbled on these videos while looking for historical info on the area (particularly Elsham and Brigg) where my maternal grandmother's parents came from over a century ago. Anyway, thank you Madeleine for making these fun and informative pieces, especially while covid kept people at home!

My grandparent's three-bed semi, which they bought new in 1924 for £750, had identical electric bell pushes in each room and an indicator panel in the kitchen, very much as you show here in Normandy Hall. Since this system also included the front door bell I had great fun as a child pressing the buttons in the bedrooms and making my poor Granny think there was someone at the door. I can't believe that anyone who bought one of these houses in the 1920s actually had servants, I assume the developers thought that there was no harm in flattering potential buyers by suggesting that they thought that they might be.

Great piece of cut out animation with a thought provoking theme. Women’s magazines of the 1940s and 1950s used to be filled with articles on how to get the right man and how to keep him. A similar survey of the 1990s found noting had changed. I wonder if a visit of current mainstream women’s magazines would find much has changed....

Is it time to start mentioning you are also protecting yourself by not going out and meeting people? I expect folk are well through the denial stage of the change curve now and be reaching the ‘anger’ point and becoming self orientated so the message should become more personal...

The Volunteer Showcase was a fantastic event to find out about volunteering opportunities in North Lincolnshire. I didn't realise all the different organisations who take on volunteers. Volunteering isn't just for older/retired people. Organisations take on volunteers to help reskill them to help them get back into employment and also if you have some skills that you can share with others, that's a great use for your time.Search the council website for information about becoming a volunteer
