Hello from Ouray, Colorado! Thank you very much for taking us along with you up the Bear Creek trail! I feel like it is my second favorite hike in the area; Ice Lake being my top. Ha...I use this hike as the example when I explain my long hair german shepherd dog to people-- he will stand on the edges of these cliffs and just enjoy the heck out of it, but I can chase him around the house with a piece of paper and he'd think I was going to cut all 4 of his legs off.

Gee thanks for the non-informational, non directions to the spot, useless video just to make yourself feel better. Nvm being helpful. Waste of my dm time.

I am going to spend the last week of August and most of the month of September in the San Juans - Ouray, Silverton and Lake City. As part of my preparation for the trip, I've found directions to this waterfall and will tell you what I've found in case Lisa doesn't see your comment. <From Silverton: Take C.R. 7 for 4.6 miles (just past the South Mineral Creek Campground) to the crossing of Clear Creek (in a culvert, not a bridge) and park where space allows. If there is no room at the bridge, backtrack for 1/8 mile to the Ice Lakes Trailhead (opposite the campground) and park there. Find the unsigned trail on the west side of Clear Creek and follow it toward Mineral Creek, then upstream along Mineral Creek for a total of 1/5 of a mile to the base of the upper tier of the falls.> I'd guess some of the confusion about finding this waterfall is that the first creek you see from the campground is Clear Creek and that's not the one the waterfall is on. Also, Ice Lakes is one of the most popular hikes in the San Juans, so it probably turned this beautiful waterfall into an afterthought. It's such a short hike to the waterfall that I plan to do it and then do the Ice Lakes hike. With the blue water and double drop, this waterfall reminds me of St. Mary's Falls in Glacier National Park.

This is how screwed up yall are. Fox, who aleady lost a half a billion dollar lawsuit for lying, is going to talk yall into nominating a convicted felon, rapist and fraudster, for POTUS just to placate your fascist feelings. Yall are doing more to help Dems win than the Dems. I say, send in your money now. Someone has to pay that poor pigs legal expenses.

Did Handies Peak 2 weeks ago. The drive up to Grizzly Gulch trailhead from Lake City (4wd F-250) was not fun but worth it. Still lots of snow up at elevation. Nowhere near that many people up there 2 weeks ago, 2023 mid July.

Main question: What is the road like to the trail head? I have an AWD Mazda CX-5 (RAV4 size). I've done some bad roads, but was kind of white-knuckling it. You hear mixed things about the road to the trailhead, from "you CAN do it with a sedan, but ..." to "you NEED a 4WD to get there," so updated info is always appreciated. I was going to do the Matterhorn last year before my Leadville race, but ended up bonking on the DeCaLiBron instead. I would not recommend. The road is horrible and I think the land dispute out there has prompted both owners to just kind of let everything tied to doing that hike to fall to sh!t, including that road. Doing the race again this year, so reconsidering the Matterhorn. Take care.

0:00 Starts near the Mill Creek Campground on county road 30 (Lake City side of Cinnamon pass) 4:15 Passing the Co Rd 35 turn to Sherman overlook 23:25 Parked cars at Silver Creek/ Grizzly Gulch trailhead area If you keep heading west you will get to the Co Rd 12 fork which enters American Basin; If you bear right at the fork to stay on Co Rd 30 it will take up to Cinnamon Pass.

Where did you start from? Silverton or Lake City?

This is the Lake City side. Subarus can make it up no problem
@472BB2 жыл бұрын
County road 30 is rated "rough 2wd" until the Silver Creek trailhead, then "easy 4wd" to the entrance of American basin. After turning off Co Rd 30 at the county road 12 fork into American Basin it then turns to "high clearance 4wd". The pre-covid era videos show pretty well maintain gravel roads in the area. Looks like the roads in this area have taken a bit of a beating in the past couple years with more exposed rocks.
