With all respect, in what universe is f4 12-24 zoom a comparison point for a 9mm f5.6 prime? If all you want is super UW, then you should not have bought the Sony which shines in its versatility. Very different lenses with very distinct use cases.

I was interested in the 7 Artisans version until I saw that this one has the option for an ND filter. That's essential for video, so I'm more inclined to go with this lens (they're probably made at the same factory anyway).

looks good mate its a shame you cannot buy 34mm nd filters separately because nobody makes them so if you need 3 stop or 6 stop then you will need to find another hack.

I have the Sony 24mm GM and was considering selling it for buying the Samyang, mainly because it would fit better on my A7CII, and the minor weight. But I love the rendering of the Sony since the first picture I took. Fortunately you compare the bokeh at different appertures between this two lenses, and as I see, Sony is more pleasant. Thank you for the comparison beyond the pixel-peeping, which I'm not very interested in. I guess I'll keep the GM! Congratulations for the comparison.

If I had to choose right now, I would definitely take the 12-24 but I'm still curious about the 9mm. You're welcome in terms of what I said. Your video seriously helped in my decision. If you test the lenses on winter landscapes where there is a lot of snow, then the GM 24mm 1.4 has quite serious chromatic aberrations. But Samyangs, according to numerous reviews, having an ideal optical component, are very weak in terms of design, they often break down, just crumble into pieces in hands.

I'm so confused. I own a Canon R6 and also Sony A74 and I need a 24mm lens for either body. Do I get the Canon RF 24mm F1.8 STM or do I get the newly released Sigma 24mm F1.4 Art for the Sony - and now the Samyung 24mm or look for a used Sony native 24mm f1.4 GM or even the Sony 20mm F1.8 G. So many choices - Thanks Steve ( Istvan ) from Canada. Mostly needed for family outings and family vlogs.
@bellalaszlo22942 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, I understand you're confused, considering you need to think about two different bodies. Unfortunately I have never owner Canon mirrorless body, don't count on me with that :) For the Sony body I would go for a second hand 24gm as it's also good for investment. It's an outstanding all around lens. If you're on a budget, go for the Samyang 24mm. An extra advice: I probably would not have the same focal length for both bodies ;)

Forgive the stupid question I'm about to ask but since I've never done astrophotography yet I'm trying to figure it out. Is the orange at the bottom of the photo the sun coming up just before dawn or is it just after sunset? I live in Arizona and I'm thinking of getting this lens to try to get into astrophotography. Lot's of extremely dark places in the desert out here with little to no light pollution. Great video by the way!
@bellalaszlo22942 жыл бұрын
There is no stupid question, we all starting to learn from scratch ;) This orange colour is light pollution. If you're shooting astro landscape, it's not enough to go to a dark spot. You'll need to consider cities, villages in your shooting direction. I would recommend this lens to start with, good bang for buck. Watch some astro videos to understand the basics (even better if you can join some workshops) then use every clear night to go out and practice ;)

@@bellalaszlo2294 I can recommend the Sony ECM-W2BT...It gives an amazing 200 meter range with full strereo audio, it is USB rechargeable and it has a 2 hour longer battery life than the Rode equivalent (9 hours vs 7 hours). It comes as two parts...One that slides onto the cameras hot shoe and the other is a bluetooth clip on mic. They can be used separately, or both together, and you can plug a Lavalier mic into the blutooth mic to eliminate more background audio. Sony do an optional stereo Lavalier mic specially for this purpose. The unit on the camera transfers the audio to the camera through the hotshoe, so it is completely wireless/cordless mic option.

@bellalaszlo22942 жыл бұрын
Szia.

Interesting review, thank you for doing this. We can see that from 1.4 the sony has a little more contrast. But thing is, when you do astro and show us the pictures, the GM is at 1250 is and samyang at 2000 iso. So, from your opinion, 1.8 aperture is enough compared to 1.4 to get the most of the stars? No risks to push the ISO and have some noise?
@laszlobella-lighthunters3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. True story ISO counts a lot when it comes to noise and "number" of stars. Depends on your camera body. With the 7iii you can easily go up to 5-6000 without serious image degradation. IMHO this difference is manageable, if it's a 1.4 vs 2.8 battle.... Different story ;-)

The differences are so small, I'd really like to see the same sort of comparison with other copies of these lenses. I'm so particular I might crop out the corners on either lens. Price wise the Samyang is great. The GM lens, I like the slight difference in color cast better, if I'm seeing it correctly, a little more modern less vintage. And considered for more than just astro, I'd like it better too. It gives me a slightly superior overall impression, with the advantages of being a Sony lens on a Sony camera, but is it worth that price difference?

Very good question. I believe every person has a different answer for that. True that other aspects matter as well than astro. My opinion is that the Samyang is not 3 times worse that the Sony. If I had the GM I wouldn't downgrade. If I wouldn't have any of them, I would pick the Samyang
