a true master. my poor wife now ex-victim self-destructively insisted on divorce and cult induction for her future. our last real date was a LAURIE ANDERSON Concert !! all the ladies in the audience looked like university tigresses and their dates looked like old wire clothes hangers. my poor exvictim realized "i have the most passable guy in this Packed venue,, And he dragged me to this master performance!" her brief moments of lucidity were short lived. being a harekrishna with still deep regret i had to show her silently how to open the door to leave. with me it was King Crimson Israel Vibration and Laurie Anderson... a door opens and closes -

reminds me of Animal Collective, in particular Strawberry Jam/MPP era. AC were probably a fan of this album and the more experimental worldbeat influenced new wave bands in general (Talking Heads). Additionally I think their video for 'Bluish' was directly influenced by this video, very similar look.

I bought Mister Heartbreak after reading a review of the album in Keyboard Magazine back then. The image on the inner sleeve of a harmonic spectral analysis display from her Synclavier added a special technological mystique -- associated with what was, after all, a special instrument and a wonderful technology that she used well. Together with the printed lyrics, the other graphics, and the songs themselves it was like, "Hey, this is cutting edge stuff here. This is some serious, innovative art." I still love the album. It speaks to me in different ways as I age.

Laurie wrote this song as a tip of the hat to her father. He would tell her wild imaginative stories like in the "Sharkey" lyrics before she went to sleep. "The little girl says Ooo Wee" is Laurie.

every day, since about 2001 or so, i think , is a sort of a sharkey-type-day yes i remember it even in '84, when i was 19... but at the time it didn't impress me so much, tho i was a prince fan even then, which at the time, was still a fairly cool thing to be, i might add... laurie anderson to me, just looked like a sorta weird baby-boomer, and sure enough, that's what she always will be, only now she just looks greater than ever~

How can such an old song be so in the future?
@anonymoushuman83442 жыл бұрын
Because she can see the future. And because nothing is "old" anymore. It's all here in the same cultural present now. (Or is it more that I am older?)
