From what I know about it. It’s self leveling clear coat. I don’t believe it to be thinned out.

Did you just scuff lightly with supplied scotchbrite pad again before the 2nd coat? Or did you rewash and do all the steps ?
@stayathomegarageАй бұрын
I actually didn’t scuff between coats. Maybe I should have? But if I were to do it again, I wouldn’t wait 24 hours to do another coat. So, I’m not sure if I would scuff between coats. But that’s just personal preference.

@stayathomegarage ok thank you! Did you have any small runs? I had thr greasy look as well after the 1st coat. 2nd coat.. looks better but i have small runs here and there. I am getting frustrated because it hard to make it look perfect. I did scuff lightly before 2nd coat. I do not advise that.

What if my gage goes back and forth between full and fill as my compressor goes between running and not running while the AC is blowing?
@stayathomegarage2 ай бұрын
@@justingonzalez702 you always want the compressor to be on and not kick off while your filling it. So, you can Google how to do that temporarily while you’re trying to fill the system. If it says full while the compressor is running, then you’re good. If it’s still not blowing cold, then you have air in the system and might need to look at how to evacuate the system and recharge it completely.

Quick question, I had the same problem with my base coat color absorbing into the pad too. I assume this was because the clear coat was going directly onto the exposed base coat which removes some of it due to the solvents and wiping it onto the vehicle. When you did the 2nd and 3rd coats, do you remember if there was any color leaking on the pad? I would think there shouldn't have been any because it was going directly onto the clear coat layer. Thank you and great video!

How much Poppy's was left at the end if any? Was 10oz enough for each coat?
@stayathomegarage4 ай бұрын
Yea. There was plenty left over after putting on 3 coats. The thing that I was getting close to running out of is the catalyst that made the clear coat chemical resistance. That I almost ran out of after mixing the appropriate amount for each coat. But again, that may have changed if I didn’t do my coats over 3 days.

@stayathomegarage6 ай бұрын
I mean. I think it’s all relative. My kit was $184 for everything shown. So, if you can have a body shop clear your truck for less than $200, that is fantastic! But I really enjoyed the product and enjoyed doing it myself. So, just depends on what you are looking for I guess.

@Austin22764 ай бұрын
I don't think it dissolves the paint but I believe it will remove some of the base coat due to the solvents in the clear coat, and the 1st layer of initial coating. In addition, it also removes a portion of base coat from the wipe-on process. I was wondering though, after the 1st layer of clear coat if the 2nd and 3rd layer shouldn't have any base coat because it will be going directly on clear. I wanted to confirm this though since I'm not for sure.

So what’s the consensus, 30 minutes between coats and scuff? Or 24 hours and scuff? Directions aren’t clear
@stayathomegarage6 ай бұрын
If I had to do it over again. What I would do is wait 30 mins to 1 hour between coats. I don’t think you need to scuff after first coat. The mistake I made is after waiting 24 hours, I used the same paint tray and applicator. Do not do that. I think that is the biggest thing that cased me issues.

@@stayathomegarage You're welcome. I had planned on using ram air manifolds in my '66, but the company that makes the best castings for those (Ram Air Restorations) was pretty flakey and after close to a year and a half of waiting for them to ship my order, I cancelled and installed a set of Doug's headers. No regrets. The Doug's headers fit great and don't need to be dented or clearanced anywhere to fit in the car. Oil changes are a breeze. They're expensive, but it's a buy once cry once situation, so money well spent, IMO.
@mark6336610 ай бұрын
Thanks for this post. I have a new to me 65 and had no idea headers existed that allowed an easy oil change. I have a lot to learn about this engine. What are the advantages/disadvantages between the RA manifolds and Dougs headers? I would assume both of those would be a big upgrade over the stock exhaust manifolds. @@ZeGermanHam
@ZeGermanHam10 ай бұрын
@@mark63366 Advantages of RA manifolds are they take up less space, are more durable over time, and are quieter (may be a disadvantage to some). Main disadvantage of them is they don't make as much power as headers. Advantages of headers are more power, more aggressive sound, cool looks, and less weight. Doug's headers are the only brand I'd consider in a GTO, since they fit right and don't hang down too low. RA manifolds are good too, but don't have the performance edge that headers do. That may not matter so much for you depending on your goals, though. And yes, either option is better than the standard manifolds.
@mark6336610 ай бұрын
All of the headers I've seen are such a tight fit I haven't upgraded. I saw one that was so tight, he used a remote mounted oil filter. Now I have two choices thanks for the information. @@ZeGermanHam
