love these paintings i found the doe drew me in more but i think its more because you have really captured the timidness and elegance of a doe here, both mediums look great and give the results, i agree it is down to personal preference. amazing paintings as always xx

The pose on that doe is SO cute. I like a *thicc* gouache style, but I also hate fiddling with tubes. Unfortunately, I have found that brand matters a lot when it comes to drying them in a palette. Daniel Smith's new line is sooo buttery, even from a dry palette. I like to keep mine in a plastic palette with sloped wells that I can mist heavily without rust being an issue, and they're not as hard on my brushes as pans are :) Love your artwork here!

I love my dry gouache for plein air, I have windsor and Newton and they don't seem to need the scrubbing... these 2 deer are gorgeous, the doe is mystical looking and the stag looks strong!

Nice haul! If you are knew to naples yellow, make a chart of it with your blues, it does not always make a green, so it's very suitable for sunset paintings forexample

Your painting turned out so lovely 😊 I love qor and just like you said not many brands have curated sets like them, I got the basic set because I didn't know what colors I liked at first and I struggled with them, but when I got the high chroma set I absolutely fell in love with them 🥰

The colors are gorgeous 🥰 I really really love Jackson's watercolor block so I was excited to try thia pad, and I hated it for other reasons 😅 it didn't repel the water but it did warp a Lot and it didn't feel nice to work with at all. So I'm sticking to their blocks 😅

highly recommend winsor and newtons permanent white (or zinc white if you want a less opaque mixing white) it comes in 14ml and 37ml and dries beautifully. haven't tried holbein yet but i am tempted by a few of the colours to fill in the gaps that winsor and newton has in their collection, especially the pastel purple and single pigment earth tones.

Did you touch the paper a lot? The oils from your fingers will cause a resistance on the surface. Otherwise, it could be an issue with the sizing, which is strange since it's a new product. Also, if that is Bockingford paper, it's not cotton, and in my experience with it, it does not absorb watercolor well until you get a first layer down. Hope you enjoy your new paints!

I dont think I did but I have tried more pages underneath since and they didn't have the same effect, so maybe! I don't know why I thought it was cotton, a silly assumption on my part. It's not my favourite paper but definitely works better than my first impression. Thank you for the comment!

@@Peachykraft I think when you were swatching the opera pink, I can see a set of three of fingerprints. It is not necessarily you, but since it is the first page, there might have been a bunch of people touching it at the store. Good that you only did swatching and not trying to do some actual art

Great haul! Is it possible that with the first paper pad, it was a top protective sheet and the rest of the pad is good paper? It’s hard to imagine that cotton paper would behave this way
