Excellent series on orchard establishment based on logical scientific knowledge. I request to upload video on plant spacing (plant to plant and inter row distance) for mechanized farming such as pruning ,harvesting, spray in high density or ultra high density plantation on raised beds. Thanks.

Thanks for this. Quick question though, if these trees were to be planted in zambia would they produce fruit that tests the same as when they are planted in SA? Considering the difference in the climate.

Would you say that finger limes require different pruning techniques?
@CitrusAcademy1
@CitrusAcademy1 2 жыл бұрын
We are not familiar with finger limes in South Africa, but the principles of pruning - light interception, removing deadwood, simplifying plumbing - should be applicable to all types of citrus. It would be best, however, to contact a local expert for advice.

@@CitrusAcademy1 Thank you for replying 😊 I have four finger lime cultivars, bought in August. Pruned them for the first time today after letting them grow from the skinny little twigs that they were. I have to say, your video definitely helped me make some tough cuts. Water shoots tend to look nice and healthy to newbies like me, but I've removed most of them. I noticed today that finger limes tend to grow three to four shoots from the same point on a branch. They're not quite like the kaffir limes and calamansis that we're used to growing here in Southeast Asia. Their growth is more... Wild and unpredictable.

WHERE CAN I GET YOUR NURSERY OR PLANTS IN NAMIBIA?
@CitrusAcademy1
@CitrusAcademy1 2 жыл бұрын
Citrus growers in South Africa are supplied by certified nurseries, which also export to other countries and may be able to assist. We do not have information about nurseries in Namibia. Please visit www.citrusres.com/cri-divisions/#cis for more information about certified nurseries, or email [email protected].

Can it be possible to train plant shoots by trellis method in citrus particularly aside lime in high temperature area.
@CitrusAcademy1
@CitrusAcademy1 2 жыл бұрын
Trellising in citrus has been experimented with, but it has not been successful in the South African production context. We have milder temperatures, however, and it may make sense to try it out in hotter areas!

Can you tell me why it does not have a citrus flower and fruit every year
@CitrusAcademy1
@CitrusAcademy1 2 жыл бұрын
Some citrus types and cultivars are alternate bearing, meaning that if they are left to their own devices, they will bear only every second year. In commercial production, cultural practices, such as pruning and fertilisation, are used to get trees to bear fruit every year.

In the 1800's my grandfather from Germany was grafting Satsuma, louisiana oranges and navel oranges and lemons onto trifoilate root stock. He grafted 4000 trees for LSUag in plaquemines parish and taught the college students and their teachers how to do this. He grew THE BEST CITRUS IN LOUISIANA. apparently the Europeans have been teaching ppl all around the world how to grow food for a very long time. But somehow we still have to send food aid to these nations for over 60 years or better. I wonder why? It seems all our help has been done in vain.
