Hello, Thank you for this video it is super helpful! In my understanding the "Effective Wind Area, ft^2 (m^2) on the horizontal axis of the chart is referring to the zone 1', 1, 2, and 3 areas. And the (GCp) for each each zone must be selected based on these "Effective Wind Area" for the corresponding zone. For example if my Zone 1' area is 1000 ft^2 then the GCp = - 0.4. Am I correct?

So how does this system work when you have tapered insulation? I'm looking at a job right now where the tapered will be 16.5" at the outside parapet down to 6" for the base layer. Don't see how fastening can work. You'd need many different lengths of screws up too approx 18". Would it not make more sense to fasten the base layer and duotack the rest and use a conventional base and cap sheet?

Great video. In Fig. 30.3-2A, why didn't you choose GCp as a function of the Effective Wind Area?
Excellent and precise explanation with an example that I have been struggling to know the application of the wind pressure calculated until I watched your video. Thank you.

Which section you would use from ASCE7-16 for wind load on stand-alone canopy and canopy attached to the building? Thanks
@alfredonski3 жыл бұрын
Those an open structure, like a free standing wooden pavillion with a single pitch roof, have less uplift load than an enclosed structure of the same size? A friend of mine recently told me that the wind "flows right through it" so its not as bad.

If you're converting your pressures to ASD, after multiplying by .6, do you still apply ASD load combinations factors? For example .6D + .6W? Great Video!!
@Rheynez3 жыл бұрын
Nope, just the 0.6 one time. The 0.6 he showed at the end of the video is from the ASD load combos. All ASD load combos have wind factored at 0.6, so sometimes it's a bit of a shortcut to just multiply your final wind pressure by 0.6 and know that's the value you will be designing with

Why do we get GCp values when effective wind area of 1 ft^2??
@SopremaUSA3 жыл бұрын
For roofing we use a tributary area for the attachment of components between 0 to 10 sq. ft. Adhered components are considered to have a 0 sq. ft. tributary (fully adhered) and most fastened components go up to 1 fastener per 10 sq. ft. Rarely do you find roofing components with a tributary area of attachment more than 10 sq. ft. thus we use the left side of the graph (0 to 10 sq. ft. portion of the graph).
@nicholastan21782 жыл бұрын
@@SopremaUSA So if I had a 20' long beam that is spaced about 5' apart that the roof rests on, then I should look at an effective wind area of 100sqft?
@emadnadi52062 жыл бұрын
@@nicholastan2178 For the beam itself as a component , you are 100% correct. But for the fasteners connections, the area is very small. Example: For wood sheathing on the roof, the sheathing effective area is 4 x 8 = 32 sq.ft. However, for the component attached to it, which is the rafter spaced at 16" , the effective area is the rafter length x 1.33.

@darrenperry61883 жыл бұрын
The next step is to find a roof system that has been tested in a test lab that can withstand -60 psf. These are published by FM and by other 3rd party agencies. Please contact SOPREMA if we may be of help! 800 356 3521

Is this product compatible with TPO roll out roofing membrane ?
@skeezy73 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, Yes, M-1 and TPO roofing are compatible with the use of a TPO Primer, see this link: chemlink.com/product/low-voc-epdm-tpo-primer/ . TPO or EPDM roofing needs a primer to scuff the surface for more bite/better adhesion.
