I’ve been a commercial motorcoach operator for about ten years and I frequently drive a 45ft Prevost in most Eastern cities routinely and I have noticed something that I don’t understand. Perhaps someone here knows the answer. Why are inner city transit bus 40 feet long? In all seriousness I have never seen a transit bus with more than a small handful of people on them at any given time. I’ve been in NYC, Boston, D.C., Philadelphia, and every other city on the East Coast yet it’s always the same. Just a few people on a 40ft bus. I would think it’d be safer and more cost efficient to downsize these buses to 30ft or less. It certainly would make it easier to train drivers and I’m sure damages to the buses would decrease.
