I hear Ulfric. I understand his position. I even believe his cause is just. But I still side with the Empire. Because the only way to end the Thalmor scourge is together, as one nation of man AND mer. Because having a good reason to fight is not enough to go to war. Ulfric made the brash decision to kill Torygg, using the sacred Thu'um no less. No matter how much he spins that as an "honorable duel", it was underhanded and cheap to use a shout against Torygg. Torygg, who, as many people both in universe and out will point out, would have JOINED him if he just ASKED him. With WORDS. But not Ulfric. He had to live up to his image of a "true Nord" and become the poster child for the hotheaded oaf Nord stereotype. I know its just fiction, but damn, the Civil war story is probably one of the last bits of good writing Bethesda ever did. The fact that it divides the community this way is a testament to its effectiveness as an amazing work of fiction. I hope Bethesda will find its way back here one day.

It's because of him they're no longer jarls ~ all the jarls do this if you remove them from power through the Civil War quest line

427 Tbh I think most people put too much stock in the Civil War, it changes next to nothing in game. You may as well pick a side based on which armour set and which jarls you prefer
