Fun fact..... Woodpeckers have a verrry long tongue.... They wrap it around their brain, from the inside, when drilling into something to keep it from shaking around. Don't believe me? Google it.

I’m baffled. So they store but don’t eat the acorns? Or do they come back over the next 100 years? I need to Google this because I’m trying to figure out why they would store so many.

Do they actually do that ? Or is this not real ?

Poor woodpeckers they would store their food here and the acorns just drops to the bottom and they can never retrieve them, only if they could learn to write and put up signs lol

Hi i know this is a few years later. I love the video. I wish i had your luck of woodpeckers bringing acorns to u. Natures gifts to u. So much u can do with it. There are farmers buying the acorns for their pigs and there are gardeners that will buy baby trees or acorns from you. And u can donate it to zoo's and bird parks. So much u can do. And in the winter you can trow it out for animal and bird to eat it. I love tree's. I pic up tree seads and then go trow the seeds where there are no trees growing. Like where old trees have fallen. Im collection all seeds of trees and flowers. Trees mainly. Its Autumn here in south africa and i have a buget list. On that list i must go trow a big bag of seeds in the semi desert of south africa.. i hope i will be able to collect alot of seeds. Its also semi desert and im collecting seeds from Durban south africa. If i had to find so many seeds lol i be in heaven...u can make money out of all those seeds. And you can feed the birds and squirrels in the winter

I lived in a mobile home in AK 40 years ago. Squirrels did the same thing in walls! Made pretty layers of insulation & food.

You should trace the woodpecker that did it and put all these acorns to that woodpecker's nest. It's woodpecker's hard work after all.

They're not in this case...they think they only dug a hold deep enough to stash the acorn in like it is the side of a dead snag. When they come back with an acorn and find and empty hole they just keep trying to put an acorn what they think is just a pocket big enough for the acorn. I watched a white headed woodpecker on my homebuilt pecky cedar feeder stash sunflower seeds in the same hole for hours last year. The hole went all the way through from the top of the wooden box back down to the bottom...he probably stashed the SAME seeds over and over as he kept going back and forth.
