that means it is NOT aligned correctly. You need to try again until the spool is perfectly going in all the way then you could easily close the latch

​@@TrungLe-lw4zm as far as the front panel usbs as you are probably aware its an I2C bus and I saw a schematic online (not for Ultra 40 but something else) which had pins 34/35 grounded. I checked sun board and it appears in the original configuration those pins where grounded (without any resistors or capacitors) as well. Did you try this?

​@@TrungLe-lw4zm the cable matters connector you referenced doesn't appear to work with my sun utlra 40 (non M2). I purchased 2 of them just to be sure. I ended up purchasing a different cable on ebay with the following description "32-pin SFF-8484 to 4x SATA Breakout Cable, 8” Length". "Reverse Breakout" was not specified in the description and it did work. Listing here in case anyone has similar issues with the Ultra 40

Make sure the spool is correctly aligned. Double check for sand or dirt that might stuck around the shaft area. If it does not help, I highly recommend you fully disassemble the whole reel and service from ground up

Did you fix this issue ? I had the same issue. I bought a used reel and the guy installed the spool incorrectly. Although the reel casted and reeled smooth I could hear what sounded like slight rubbing/squeeking. 5:07 on this video was the key!! The spool must be seated nicely on the backplate before reinstalling! These things are precise!

I'll second this - use a different machine to SSH into the BMC's dedicated ethernet port and see if it offers any diagnostics. Also obligatory: ensure all device connections are good, that the new power supply cables are fully and properly inserted, that the RAM is seated, and so on. If you have a different machine you can use to test the power supply itself, that's also a good idea.

There is no such thing as better or not because we could not compare a truck and a tank. Each built for their unique purposes. Power ISA is a RISC instead of a CISC. In the old days, it can be more powerful than those x86. Still remember the powerful PowerMac G5 from Apple? That machine outperformed many x86 workstations. However these days AMD/Intel has gotten so good, their CPUs tend to be faster across some benchmarks. However benchmark results are meaningless, we should take into consideration that critical mission applications in military, hospital, research institutions, financial, etc are still running on POWER architecture so they won't be likely to get migrated away even if Intel/AMD offers better performance. OpenPOWER initiative has been trying to make PPC more open and accessible to everyone (including the desktop consumers). The Raptor Computing Blackbird is the very first workstation toward such vision. Code density of executable files is purely dependent on the compiler. So far I find them pretty much the same size and at times some apps are actually even smaller. I don't think size matters much anymore as storage has become so cheap, it is no longer unusual to see computers with TB of storage
