Probably unnecessary advice until its not, but use the back of your hand, not the front. Electricity can cause muscles to seize and turn a touch into a grab.

you should touch it with the back of your hand, if there is any current and you try to touch it with your palm or your fingers the shock could tense up your muscles and therefore flexing your hand into a fist and getting you stuck grabbing the line

Tip: Use the backhand to test, so if it is live, you dont end up clenching into a fist because of the electricity. Be safe out there!
