It’s so sad this same elevator has now been modded with stupid Kss220 or series 220 or whatever buttons those are that suck and always break and they literally took out the window!!!😭😭😭 Like what the heck now it’s just boring metal cab walks with this gross pattern they ruined it it was pretty nice before!😩😭😭😭 I had this on my list until today I realized it’s the same one I’ve been in over the last 5 years they must have modded it just after this video!😭

I think the old Pulkovo Airport terminal was constructed in 1951. Back in 1987, I entered the USSR from a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Leningrad. The Lufthansa pilot pointed out to us that we were flying over Riga, USSR and Tallinn, USSR along the Baltic coastline as we were northeast bound towards Leningrad. In Leningrad, the aircraft landed away from the terminal about 150 meters from the terminal. We were greeted by a group of soldiers in dark green uniform lined up from the airplane to the terminal entrance with rifles pointed upwards in the air. The terminal inside if I recall was decorated with grayish-pale pink marble paneling from ceiling to the floor. The floor was covered with faint pinkish-white marble slabs. The passport control booths were open dark mahogany coloured wood. For me as a US visitor, going through soviet passport control was much easier and quicker than expected. Once outside of the airport terminal after going through passport control, a pale yellow GAZ Volga taxi was waiting to give me a ride to the shop-worn but regal looking Hotel Evropaiskaya in the center of town. The roadway exiting the airport was completely straight and barren and green flat land seen infinitely in the horizon spotted with very few trees with nothing built up for quite a few kilometers from the terminal. Looking at contemporary modern day St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport, you will see that the facilities are state of the art and the original 1951 terminal (now closed) is surrounded by the new terminal. After 37 years, I am still nostalgic about the adventures about visiting the USSR independently without a group tour, and that particular flight from Frankfurt to Leningrad.
