Why not try to condition the area beside the laces? Will it harm the laces? Will the area beside the laces eventually darken also?

Is this whole process still useful for a moderately used football instead of brand new one?

Thanks for outlining this process in a way a layperson can emulate and showing how different the finished product looks and feels.

What about tack spray
@ronthecon97723 ай бұрын
According to the Wilson web site you should never ever use Water, Shaving Cream, Milk, Lanolin, Oils etc. on the ball. because this breaks down the leather and retards absorption of condition oil etc. The balls come pre-conditioned the leather is not dye at all but the conditioner that is applied and brushing the ball is the first process to bring that conditioning back out, they become sticky doing this, then deflate ball to 8lbs, then you mix Wilson Conditioner/Tack spray 2:1 and rub ball down with mixture let dry 3-5 min. then you hit it with a heat gun each panel on low to finish drying, then you add the Mud thin layer at a milk shake consistency & let dry 1-24hr, then brush in mud leaving slight dusting then you Condition one last time. I've done this with Great success for our High School team. Then I use tack bar and tack spray weekly/as needed, brushed in after reapplication And condition on occasion as well.

After removing the mud, I’m having a hard time keeping dust off the ball, and not maintaining the dark color. Should I wax the football immediately following the removal of the mud?

Keep a ball with no wax for cold weather if you're in the North... the waxed balls get very slippery when below 45-50°F

Why not use warm water in a rag to get off the shaving cream you would think just using a brush that it's still going to be up there
@scorpianbliz5 ай бұрын
One more question, I was on the Wilson site and they don't recommend hot water or shaving cream, any thoughts on that?
@joey_taters24712 ай бұрын
shaving cream can dry out the leather much faster than normal and too much water being scrubbed in can water log it a bit which can be permanet damage but if you really need to make sure you only use minimal amounts of cream and just dont over soak the ball and its probably fine

I have the mud, buy I'm not getting the conditioner and tack until Tuesday and it's Friday. Can use the mud now, hoping that it will soften the ball for a game this Sunday?
