Thank you for this video! I chose EdD and begin my program next month. I already work in academia and after observing the general workload and research requirements/characteristics of tenure track academics, I chose a different path that better aligned with my overall career goals. Thank you for creating content to represent the EdD side of higher education!

Hi Tiffany, Thank You for this wonderful video. I am thinking of getting an EDD and this makes so much sense. I am currently applying at the University of Redlands for a single subject credential only for Spanish. I actually have a Masters in International Relations as well. I notice they have an EDD in Higher Ed then breaking them down into 4 different tracks. I do intent to work in higher ed but as an international center working with international students since I went abroad a couple of times myself. Thanks again. Maria

I never knew about the EdD program myself until it was time for me to apply for it. What difference does it really make between a Phd and an Edd for someone like me going into the academia full time? Thank you for the feedback.

Either one can be used to teach in academia (I teach HS and college courses currently); however, there is some stigma still for some academics that EdDs are not the same quality as PhDs. The reality is, it depends on the program you went through. My EdD program was structured like a traditional PhD, and more so than some peers who received PhDs in education. I think the PhD could help you avoid some of those stigmas, but ultimately, select a program with staff and a program aligned to your career and research goals for the best experience possible. I hope that helps and best of luck to you!

Why are South Carolina teacher salaries so low?
@HistoryWithTiffany

Great question! I am no longer in that state, but I would say teacher pay is a combination of cost of living/tax brackets in a specific area, and unfortunately, the value placed on the field as whole in the U.S.

You can apply for programs like this internationally, depending on the school or program. I don’t know which programs would be the right fit, but if I were you, I would definitely invest some time into researching deeply the program requirements, design/courses, cost/length, and professors in the college who teach in the programs you find. It can make a huge difference in your experience. Good luck!

@HistoryWithTiffany

Not in all programs, but you would want to be in or seeking some type of educational/instructional position for this degree to be meaningful. I have encountered people who worked for the government/military, major airlines, and corporate workers in my program, with the common theme that they are in a non traditional instructional position or seeking one. I hope this helps!

Oh yes, the good ole Comprehensive Exam, the “Comp”! Mine was in a written format and we have like five days to complete it! I wrote about 30 pages and it was a lot of work, I mean major research work! Basically, the Comp is to test your overview of general knowledge you should have learned and gained from your doctoral coursework. Also, in my program, the exam is designed to make sure you can write and cite in a manner as a professional doctoral scholar! Good luck with your Dissertation journey!! Don’t give up, you’re at the finish line👍

Thank you for this video. I used so many primary sources when I taught US History but now that I've shifted to Ancient Civilizations I've struggled to start over and research and gather sources. This video has reminded me that I need to really focus on building my primary sources for my new curriculum.

It is a lot of work to start over and build your collection back up once you switch content areas! I also think locating resources for U.S. can be a much faster process than it is for those of us in world, and especially Ancient Civ. I'm not sure what the span of your content is, but if Mansa Musa fits in the scope, there is a great set of resources from The DBQ project on his hajj! If I can ever help, please let me know. You can message me on IG @historywithtiffany. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment-- I hope you enjoy being in a different focus area!

I would love a full video on the differences between the two or your experience getting the EdD! I started teaching two years ago and I'm also thinking about going into curriculum design since leadership/admin also doesn't interest me at this time.
@HistoryWithTiffany
@HistoryWithTiffany 2 жыл бұрын
It seems like so many EdDs are really focused on the leadership part and less on the curriculum/instruction part, which like you, was much more interesting for me! I will absolutely plan to share more about my experience. I can't speak too much to the PhD in education route since I took a different one, but I know in general the PhD is intended to be more focused on conducting research that produces larger theories within their topic/specialization, while EdDs produce more research that deals with specific systems. So for example, my research won't produce a generalizable theory about women in history curriculum, but instead will produce results about how they are represented and based on that, steps we need to start taking to address the problem. Theory is still a part of what I am doing in the sense that I am conducting it through the theoretical lens of Critical Feminist Theory, but I am not seeking to develop my own theory at this time. The tricky thing between the two degrees is that, in reality, you can produce either kind of research in either program, it just depends on what you are studying and the program you are a part of. I think it is also a personal choice you make. For example, some of my peers are already in administration to some degree and are conducting action research to make specific changes within their own schools and districts regarding their curricular or instructional practices. My research is addressing a larger problem in the field of history curriculum, so our journeys look very different, even in the same program. I will try to organize my thoughts a bit and plan a new video in the near future, but I hope for now some of that is helpful/interesting! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it! :)

Hi! I stopped TPT back when schools first closed from COVID and was just giving as much as I could for free through my IG. Just wanted to help as we were all going through a tough time. I also felt weird about leaving items in my store when I didn’t have time to update them as I evolved as a teacher/curriculum designer, if that makes sense? I just didn’t have the time to do what I felt like I should be doing with it anymore. When I made my TPT covers in that old video, I used to resize a ppt slide, decorate, then export/save as an image (JPEG) to use for TPT. That was pre- Canva hype though. If I were still making covers for TPT items, Canva is absolutely the tool I would be using. I use it for IG posts, KZbin thumbnails, classroom-related graphics, and more. I hope that helps!! I know thetownieteacher on IG talks a lot about using Canva for various projects if you are able to check out her highlights and stories, but if there is anything I can answer about it, just ask! :)

@HistoryWithTiffany
@HistoryWithTiffany 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Lewis! I stopped using TPT in fall of 2019 and made everything on there free. By spring of 2020, I was just sharing as much as I could in the moment for free through 2020 since we all started facing a new challenge/reality as teachers at that point. Inevitably, I deleted my TPT all together though. I feel like this is something deserving of a quick video, but basically, I didn't feel like I should leave my store up when I didn't have the time or energy to go back and regularly update my old resources. If I am going to put out curriculum, I want to be responsible and professional about it. I hope that makes sense? I appreciate your support and I am considering ways I can share materials again that is best suited to the way I have evolved as a curriculum designer and educator. Will keep you posted!
