I have to say 'Ruby', I vote for that SF Carini as the best on the planet earth, though I believe it went beyond. Beyond goosebumps territory. I haven't teared up during a song on quite a while. . .

7/16/94 is my favorite show ever but I also think it’s the greatest show ever. I mean when Shoemaker-Levy nine is breaking into over 10 pieces that are the size of the chicxulub impact and you going to 2001 in the middle of Harpua?!?!? Plus the best antelope ever?!? Yeah. Barracuda tease… give it to me. Yeah I had Brian‘s almost exact experience. I got LivePhish two right when they released them and it absolutely blew my mind and left an indelible impression on me forever about what this band does live.

Ever since this started I’ve dreamed of a Midwest run where they pull out 12/6 & 12/7… I can’t be the only one, right?

Good discussion of jams that build! I’ll definitely go check out some 2.0, an era I’ve mostly ignored. I was one of those people moving on to new things during this time, having just graduated from college, etc. I really appreciate your takes and well-researched recommendations and jokes; listing to y’all is often part of my wind down ritual at night. Thanks for doing this!

This was another great show. Lots of good suggestions to check out! 9/1/17 was one I had never heard, thanks Brian, really good. Good commentary around Baker’s, seems foundational now, but it wasn’t ever a given. The limitations leading to new creativity is a good take y’all.

Very interesting Meg. I felt the SAME WAY about DICKS. They killed Dicks. I don't think Monde was "bad" but no bust-outs was weird.

Do you always listen to weird Phish jams in one ear when you read Pinkalicious to your daughter?
@audiofunkdialect2 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s so wild because we’re also subjective. We all have our songs we’d like and hate but I saw the first five shows of the tour and Mondegreen and my favorite shows were Sunday. I great Woods the second night at Mohegan Sun and the second and third night at Mondegreen. Kamala sucks Walz is decent, but if she doesn’t keep Lena kahn I’m not voting for her because trust, busting and breaking up monopolies is the best way to fight back against corporate fascism. and really, whichever party gets in there. The war machine wins corporate America wins the rich and special interests win. And the global south will suffer. Sorry about the cynicism.

Saw my first show in 1988... & ..they havent sounded fully all there since 2022. 2022 Was the 3.0 PEAK... but 1994 to 2004 was the full expression of their true peak..Taking.Risks in 2024??? They are not taking risks in 2024 that have the meaning that they once used too.. what's really at stake now?? ...The Dollar... Corporate Phish has emerged... Phish is still the best Live concert available in America, but they are only a shadow of what they once were...
@kevinmurtagh49962 ай бұрын
I can’t fathom how you listen to Mondegreen night 3, and say what you said. Of course it’s all subjective, strictly what you like and don’t like. I just feel literally the polar opposite of you! I can’t fathom anything better than Night 3, Set 2, and I’m someone who heavily favors pre-2004.
@OG-giku-zb8nj2 ай бұрын
@kevinmurtagh4996 I LoVe night 3 ,,The "Diseazzer".. awesome night 3 , great 2nd set! .. but let me ask you.. as far as my previous take ; do you really think this stuff just comes out of NO where? I've either been there seeing Phish from 1988 or I haven't..and.. the idea of a "critically listening audience" has always been part of the valued and time honored tradition of Phish followers , and their are room for all opinions about Phish performances,, but at present , their is a legitimate consensus of Phans "who were at" mondegreen who were a little less than impressed with the overall "vibration" at , in ,and around the mondegreen festival this past weekend...There was also plenty of stories about various "unfair & nefarious " things going on during the weekend that were extremely negative...... is Phish the greatest Band in the Universe ?ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!.... Yes.....Was mondegreen the best Phish Shows ever????? ........🤔
@BAM56362 ай бұрын
@OG-giku-zb8nj Lol, no. Trash take. 2003 and 2004 they were a drugged out mess by their own admission. Couldn't even play fluffhead at all the 2.0 era. 2024 has been the best tour year in many years now IMO.
@OG-giku-zb8nj2 ай бұрын
Nope...phish needs a theme , they need the gimmicks..they need the spectacular bustouts and breakouts.
@kevinmurtagh49962 ай бұрын
That’s cool if you need those things. I strictly need high energy, tight musicianship, and great jamming. All the other stuff is just extra for me. But I understand why some people need those things.
@OG-giku-zb8nj2 ай бұрын
@@kevinmurtagh4996 Yes jamming is what this entire experience is predicated on...& Thats why I go see Phish, but I said "Phish" needed those things ,,,, and judging by their countless "gags" and complete cover album bustout events from Halloween costumes fo New Years eve to Las Vegas runs ,, they evidently believe that they need them also.
@BAM56362 ай бұрын
Definitely not. Gags are fun but they are novelty events saved for a few times of year at most. Phish has never been all about gags to me or I would gather most of us old people still around from the 80s and 90s. More advanced improvisation which they still do very much to this day.
@billa52892 ай бұрын
It's amazing that we are talking about 2024 Phish in the first place. Comparing it 90s phish is ridiculous. That was another time in space that holds a a significant place in time so many fans. That a band growing on under multiple influences. This is the pay off! They are highly skilled musicians listening too and playing off each other like never before.The improvisation has phinally reached the level of jazz legends. Jaded vets should let go and enjoy the magnificent evolution of this incredible band.

AEG sucks. Phish should never work with them again. AEG added a corporate vibe to it. And please don’t add DJ’s to Phish festivals. They don’t belong there.

I can’t remember where it was because I talk to so many random people at shows but either at Mansfield or Mohegan Sun I met the guy that was the postmaster at one of the festivals and I think it’s the one that has the mini documentary about it I think it might have been IT but he’s in the video where somebody stops into the post office really quickly

Little details like this have been cool! ( Like that 99 Fee at Virginia Beach was awesome! Then I agree been some rip cords were they ve been really locked in and sound great and just rush out to get to another song! Like ride it out when you’re locked in! That KDF was good and locked in! Enjoy the shows! 🤙!
