Very clear. Any idea why translation apps seem to use nearly always Het instead of Hem for It regardless of the noun?

Hi Ronald, good question, I don't really have an answer. It might be because many people (including myself) make mistakes against objects' genders. So I guess the translation apps use the safest way out...

About the pronounciation of G: He says in the video that the Belgian pronounciation is like a hissing cat. I agrre on that. I would add though that the the pronounciation in the Netherlands sounds like a bigger cat like panther or cougar. 😅

why does “de kinderen eten geen rijst” use geen even if it is not indefinite noun ( the children)
@LearnDutchwithAlain
@LearnDutchwithAlain 7 күн бұрын
The 'geen' is with rijst, not with de kinderen. And rijst is an indefinite noun.

Dank u veel! But couldn't we use "als" as we use 'when' in German? I speak German and want to see if Dutch also agrees with this special case : "Als ich Brot gegessen habe, kam meine Mutter nach Hause." (not to show what I know), just to understand if "als" can also be used when sth. happened only once in the past like her sister German. 🎉Your answers are always very helpful !!!

@LearnDutchwithAlain 17 күн бұрын
Thanks, Monique :) Yes, als and wanneer are synonyms in Dutch, except when asking questions: 'wanneer kom je' can't use 'als'.

De auto is 'the' car, die auto is 'that' car. Also, die is used in sub-clauses, for example: Het is de auto die ik gebruik. (It's the car that I use). Hope it helps!

Ok, honestly I just start learning, but what I can occure regarding to difference between dutch accent from netherlands and standar dutch from Belgium, is that you're accent is well at least a little bit nearer to french, like there very similar with pronunciation from french, when in "original" dutch you can feel strong germanic influence. I make assumption to say that Belgium dutch sounds like that, because french is maybe a co-native language for some of you am I right?
@the.ghost.in.the.library
@the.ghost.in.the.library Күн бұрын
That's true for French loan words, but besides that it is not really the case. It is actually the accent from the Netherlands that had changed the most in the last 50 years whilst the flemish accent has stayed more or less the same. The accent from the Netherlands used the sound a lot more Flemish. They used to have a soft g, a rolling r, ij and ei more pronounced like they do in Flanders and a lot more voicing of the consonants. If you want an example, listen to some clips from the ducth dub of snow White 'sneeuwitje'. There you can hear it a bit. Also, this might be a bit nitpicky, but Flemish Dutch is not derived from Dutch Dutch and it has been spoken in Belgium as long as Dutch has been a thing, so it is a bit weird to say 'original' Dutch when you mean Dutch from the Netherlands, but that is just me speaking as a linguist 😊

Also, there's a lot of American /r/ to hear in the NL Dutch at the end of words after a vowel, such as in cultuur, kleur or maar. One of the biggest differences between the two for me too.
