Abraham Lincoln. The 16th President of the United States. Lincoln came from modest beginnings in the Midwest. His family were poor landowners who were caught between the two major struggles of the day: the push westward into indigenous territory, and the tension between enslaving farmers (where wealth tended to be consolidated into larger landownings) and those who worked their own fields. The Lincolns were pushed up and north into Indiana, where they engaged in woodworking and farming. Times were hard - Lincoln’s mother died when he was a small boy, and Lincoln became mostly self-taught. Upon his return from serving in the militia against the Sauk, Lincoln studied law and began pursuing politics in earnest. Lincoln’s early political career was with the Whigs, a party that had coalesced - in America, at least - against executive power, an artifact of its original anti-monarchical status. In the US, this meant combating the potential for political figures such as Andrew Jackson to establish sweeping executive powers. The US was changing, however, and the dominant divisions were no longer between wealthy plantation owners in Virginia (e.g., Washington or Jefferson) against thrifty and philosophically-minded New Englanders (e.g., Franklin or Adams), but as an industrial capital in the North against a South moving towards industrial agriculture, powered by slave labor. As the Whigs transformed into the Republican party, aligning with Northern industrial interests against the South, Lincoln became a leading voice. Lincoln’s views called for moderation on the issue of slavery (as awful as that sounds today, it was progressive for the time), international economic protectionism, and support for domestic industry - all policies that favored free capital (within the country, at least, and amongst white men), industrialization and the wealth of industrialists. These white Southern landowners in the South depended upon slavery to keep pace with international industrial, agricultural production, and global trade. Still, it was an increasingly untenable (and had always been an abhorrent) practice. Lincoln made no disguise of his opposition to slavery, although he saw containment, and not eradication, as the path forward. But even this attempt at moderation was too far for Southern states, who interpreted his election as a sign that their power within the Union was irrevocably waning and that the institution of slavery, and thus their economic base, might be at an end. Thus, directly after his election, the Confederacy declared its separation. Lincoln was a debater and, as such, was criticized for underestimating the gravity of the situation and not taking early action, but his penchant for words and caution was to pay off later. In the Civil War, the South had the advantage of home territory and a well-educated elite to produce generals and strategists, but lagged behind the North in nearly every other factor. As much of the labor force in the South were enslaved and, as such, would be hard-pressed to make fight for their own continued enslavement, the South had to use propaganda campaigns to bring poor landless whites to fight. Further, Southern factories and industry lagged behind the North. And finally, the South lacked existing international support. But there was a path to victory, however unlikely this seemed. The politics of racial resentment remained, and Lincoln underestimated the pro-slavery sentiment even in states that did not secede (e.g., Maryland) - riots and saboteurs abounded there. More ominous, there were many international powers that would like to see the South remain a largely agricultural producer of raw materials to fuel their own industry, especially given Lincoln’s penchant for foreign tariffs and protecting American trade. Lincoln intercepted envoys from the Confederacy to England, but in a wise move, gave leniency, thus avoiding an international incident. Things could have gone differently: a foreign power could have intervened. A mass slave uprising could have destroyed the Confederacy before it began. A mass pro-slavery uprising could have sabotaged the United States’ industry. But none of these things happened, and the industrial machine of the North inexorably destroyed the Confederacy. This theme of industrialism is key here. At home, Lincoln was known for establishing a banking administration and a department of agriculture, both issues to bring the growing nation under centralized control. But when we think of Lincoln’s time, we think of growing factories, the rise of European immigration to the US, the growth of railroads. And also, the movement of these industrial forces against the lands to the west - Lincoln, especially given his background, had no soft spot in his heart for the indigenous people of the continent.

<Crow prologue> Crow. The low-ranking Tekken Force soldier. After the previous tournament, he reported to his superiors for his combat results while having a high expectation of a promotion. He scored high on the report, but was not promoted. Instead, Crow was assigned to a desk job filing paperwork for incoming recruits. Day after day he grows bored of his job, moaning “This sucks. Why can’t I get promoted? I am a soldier meant to fight, not sitting behind my desk.” Two months later, he was called into his superior’s office who briefed him about the change in the zaibatsu’s leadership and the sudden announcement of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5. They said that they needed someone to infiltrate the tournament to investigate potential uprising, and find Crow a suitable candidate for the job. Crow accepted the offer and entered the tournament…with high hopes of finally getting a promotion this time.

<Crow prologue> Shortly after the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Heihachi established his own private army, the Tekken Force, for security to prevent future uprisings against the Mishima Zaibatsu. Eventually, the Tekken Force becomes the zaibatsu’s military branch and expanded the role to include military operations and providing economic aid around the world. Each member was named after birds of prey according to their rank. But one member, Crow, stood out from the rest of the low-ranking cadets. Displaying impressive combative fighting skills worthy of a high-ranking soldier. With the announcement of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 in full swing, the Tekken Force stands ready to guard from outside interference. Crow was given an exclusive opportunity by the high-ranking officers to participate to demonstrate his skills in the tournament, promising him a promotion as a reward should Crow emerge victorious.

I still have a tablet that runs this game. I feel lucky every time I remember it :)

I love it when they bring back Tekken music from the earlier games. I was so hyped hearing this again in Tekken 5, after having already heard it in the 3rd game where it came from !!

<Ben Smith prologue> American pro-wrestler Ben Smith has won many championship titles since he first entered the ring seventeen years ago. A proud and patriotic Texan, he embodies a model example of a strong, powerful American superstar; earning him the nickname “The All-American Pride”. Unfortunately, for the first time in his life, Ben’s career fell apart when he was stripped off from all his titles after failing a doping test. A claim that he repeatedly denied. He unsuccessfully filed a lawsuit against the company, and was suspended indefinitely as a result. Fallen from grace, Ben secretly turned to illegal underground fighting. For four years, he has been fighting to earn money for a living while remaining anonymous from the public. One day after the match, a man claiming to be his agent offered him a chance for redemption by showing him a flier announcing the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. By entering the tournament, Ben puts his bet on the line in winning to restore his fame and revive his career.

<Ben Smith prologue> Ben Smith. The former All-American Pride wrestler. He finally reached the semi-finals of the previous tournament after defeating many fighters in his path for redemption. But just when he was about to face his next opponent, Ben was suddenly suspended from the tournament after they found out that he had failed the antidoping test. The same test results that ended his career four years ago. Ben was left outraged. To make matters worse, his wife found out about his illegal underground fighting scheme and filed for a divorce. After she left him with custody of his kids, Ben fell into a deep depression. “How could I ever get my fame back after my failed test?” Ben complains to himself. While dining in a restaurant, he overheard a conversation about him. It was his agent talking to someone on his cellphone. Eavesdropping, Ben hears something about the doping test jokingly saying, “The fake test I’ve setup worked like a charm. His career went downhill, along with his pride. So much for that, he is now an All-American Disappointment!” Revealing that Ben’s doping test was rigged. Then he hears about the upcoming King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, and that he was added to the roster while the fake doping test is already in place. “That bastard will pay for all the damage he has done to me!” Ben said as his agent re-enters him to the tournament, knowingly who is responsible for his downfall.

<JACK-4 prologue> The JACK model units were a series of mass-produced military-grade androids created for urban warfare. Originally developed in the former Soviet Union by Dr. Boskonovitch, they were programmed to be ideal killing machines in the battlefield. In G Corporation, the latest JACK model unit, JACK-4, was developed in part by a young scientist named Jane. Where they served for security enforcement purposes. After the Mishima Zaibatsu raided one of their laboratories in Nebraska, United States, a mandatory order was announced by the board for the JACK-4 units to be repurposed and upgraded with combat capabilities. One JACK-4 unit was given a directive by G Corporation to enter the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 to hunt down the perpetrator behind the raid. Their main target: the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu, Heihachi Mishima.

Hwoarang Jin Kazama's rival. Near the end of previous tournament, the Korean Military arrested Hwoarang. At the Korean embassy, a man claiming to be the ambassador passed him a letter. "I've received this letter for you from the military. Take a look." Hwoarang couldn't believe his eyes. "Get me out of here now." says Hwoarang. Next day, Hwoarang flew to Korean to complete his training. Now done with his military service. Hwoarang is ready to finish Jin Kazama!

Marshall Law The fighting chef. After his restaurant failed. Law tried to revive his career in the previous tournament. He failed at that, too. Law, now penniless, stayed in japan to work as a dishwasher. A month later, his wife called him. Their runaway son was in accident, riding around on Paul Phoenix's bike. Faced with his son's mountain of medical bills Law prepares to enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5.

Something about 1:04 just gets me hyped when playing Tekken!

I’m disappointed this track isn’t an option in tekken 8 for the jukebox which is weird. Maybe one day it can be added if enough people ask the devs.

<Helene Sage prologue> Helene Sage. The champion of youth. Desperate to save her parents, she enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 against her will by the syndicate. But during the tournament, she was approached by detective Lei Wulong who is investigating the syndicate’s activities abroad. Helene told him about the hostage situation, giving Lei more insights into the syndicate. Meanwhile back in Paris, Helene is horrified to see that her once-loyal fans are now turning against her. Whispers and magazine tabloids of scandals echoed through the public as her reputation tarnishes. As she tried to publicly dispel the rumors, few believed her while most of the people mocked her. Now a social pariah, Helene was forced to keep a low profile. One day, she received a phone call from the syndicate. “If you want to save your parents, including your reputation, do as we say.” The caller told her about the upcoming King of Iron Fist Tournament 5. Helene, feeling compelled against her will once again, re-enters the tournament in secrecy. Knowingly and hopefully that the detective Lei will rescue her parents.

<Az’Khoteph prologue> Five-thousand years ago in Ancient Egypt, an esoteric religious group called Azazsamen (or Azazel Brotherhood) practiced dark magic in secrecy under the guidance of their spiritual leader Az’Khoteph through their devotion to their deity Azazel. But upon their discovery by the pharaoh, the Azazsamen were hunted down and wiped out. With many of his followers slain, Az’Khoteph performs a ritual of self-mummification and seals himself in a sarcophagus to evade capture. Putting him into an eternal slumber. In the present-day, a dark energy emanating from an unknown source awakens Az’Koteph from his sarcophagus after resting for many millennia of years. Only to find himself in a museum. Wandering through the strange new world he is in, Az’Kohteph seeks out for the source of the dark energy. Then he stumbles upon the news of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. Seeing as an omen yet curious, Az’Khoteph searches there for the mysterious source.

<Koguma Banda prologue> Daughter of a wealthy Spanish socialite and a Japanese dance-martial artist instructor, Koguma lived an extravagant aristocratic lifestyle with a penchant for performance arts and cultures. She studied and learned choreography as a child, and was introduced to various martial arts from her mother and other practitioners from all over the world. By combining her dancing skills with her fighting styles, Koguma invented her signature Spanish-Japanese hybrid dance martial arts called Danza Lucha Dela Rosa Sakura or Cherry Blossom Rose Fighting Dance. Koguma begins to pursue her dreams of achieving fame in performance arts from Spain to abroad. But when she heard rumors about the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Koguma immediately entered for a chance to make her grand debut.

<Doctor Boskonovitch prologue> Doctor Boskonovitch has finally been cured from his disease after using Ogre’s blood sample to create a vaccine. All thanks to his friend Yoshimitsu, he can return to his work. He finds a contract given to him by a biomedical company owned by G Corporation. It says that G Corporation is looking for a person who is willing to create an exoskeleton suit designed to help people with physical disabilities and elderly patients. Feeling generous about the endeavor he is willing to do in helping elderly and other people like himself, Boskonovitch signs the contract and begins his work to develop the exoskeleton. Hours later, the exoskeleton was completed. But Boskonovitch needed the data results to show G Corporation that it is ready to be serviced. He begins to test the product’s movements, interactions, and durability. All were marked successful. Upon hearing rumors about the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Boskonovitch needed one last test before submitting the product to G Corporation. He seeks to test the suit’s ability to enhance its fighting capabilities to not only patients, but for military or sports purposes. Seeing the tournament as an opportunity for him, Boskonovitch attaches himself to the exoskeleton and sets off for field testing.

<Doctor Boskonovitch prologue> Doctor Boskonovitch. The generous scientist. His friend, Yoshimitsu, finds a dying Bryan Fury who has less than an hour to live. Sympathizing to his deteriorating condition, Boskonovitch installs a perpetual power generator. Upon installing the generator, a fully energized Bryan assaulted Boskonovitch and fled. Yoshimitsu begins to pursue him while Boskonovitch was sent to the infirmary. Unaware of them, Boskonovitch had created an experimental strength-enhancing combat serum for one of his experiments. Looking at his injuries, he now intends to use it as a last resort for a quick recovery. Upon injecting himself, the serum begins to take effect. As the serum courses through his veins, his body undergoes a dramatic transformation. As his bones cracked and configured, his muscles expanded greatly as it instantly heals all of his injuries and rejuvenates his body into his prime state. Within minutes, what was once a scrawny Boskonovitch now became a superhuman. But due to the serum’s experimental stage, Boskonovitch is unsure of how long the effects will last. Using himself as a test subject, he intends to get the results needed. To do that, he chooses a suitable environment for his experiment: the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5.

Not only it changed his personality but he was this close to turning himself into he's not, a few days later he made some research of the yakuza and the steel of samurai, after he finished high school and he was about to go home but three squads of villains were clashing and killing each other one member survived but other killed him and was about kill Dennis but was saved by Brody Jackson and Aleister, Brody decided to take Dennis under his wing and teach him everything he knows. A shock in the eyes of Dennis, he hesitated but immediately accepts the offer, One day he is now the youngest member of the shadow genesis "This for Julie La'nell....Rest in Peace Mum" says Dennis, not only he'll seek revenge for his mother but every villains of squads who is a threat gets in his way from achieving his vengeance he'll show no mercy, This is his chance to make this a world better place.

Hwoarang Jin kazama rival. On the end of the previous tournament he got aressted by the korean military. A month later a letter came through. hwoarang could'nt believe his eye. 'Get me out of here!' He flew back to korea to finish his training and enter the king of iron fist torunament 5 to finish off jin kazama

<Daniel LaRusso prologue> Daniel LaRusso learned karate as a teenager until he won the All-Valley Karate Tournament. His victory and training was all thanks to his sensei, Nariyoshi Miyagi, who is also a close friend. Many years later, Miyagi passed away. Despite the loss of his sensei, Daniel vows to keep the fighting arts of the Miyagi-Do Karate tradition alive through inspiration and maintaining his own dojo. While working in the auto dealership as a salesman, Daniel saw a tv broadcast announcing the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 hosted by Heihachi Mishima, the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Seeing his face, Daniel became surprised and shocked. Scouring through Miyagi’s belongings he had kept, Daniel remembers about his sensei’s thoughts about the Mishima Family. He told him that the Mishimas outlawed the Miyagi-Do Karate arts in Japan, and had killed or imprisoned many of his clan members, practitioners, and relatives. Seeing that his sensei was one of the few surviving members of the Miyagi clan, Daniel believes that the Zaibatsu’s influence is threatening their clan heritage and traditional image. Daniel trains into top-shape, remembering Miyagi’s teachings. After days of training had paid off, Daniel headed for the tournament in his determination to combat the Mishimas’ influence and restore the Miyagi clan’s legacy back to his sensei’s homeland.

This honestly sounds like something out of a horror game.

Steve Fox, a boxing prodigy striving to be the world champion. Steve entered the previous tournament to look into the mystery of his birth. Lei Wulong helped Steve discover that he was actually a creation of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Steve vowed revenge. Just then, Steve learned of The King Of Iron Fist Tournament 5. The world champion enters without a second thought. A determined Steve says, _"The Mishima Zaibatsu will never make another monster like me!"._

<Reina Mishima Prologue> After killing Kazuya in the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Heihachi starts to wonder himself if he's a devil gene carrier. To solve this theory, Heihachi starts to analyzing his DNA with two test subjects, one, an ordinary women, and the other a member of the Hachijou clan, the same clan as her dead wife, Kazumi. The results ended with the Hachijou women dead while giving birth. The baby happen to be a little girl which later giving the name "Reina", by Heihachi himself. The Mishima Polytechnical School decided to attended the little baby after she was born. During her teenage years, Reina starts to learn the Mishima-ryu style with his father. Heihachi saw the incredible potential and power her daughter has and decided to train her personally. But her training as suprisingly stop due to her father being missing. Five years later, Reina escape the Mishima Polytechnical School in order to find her missing father. Only to learn a few days after her escape, that Heihachi Mishima is reportedly killed by the CEO of G Corporation, Kazuya Mishima, her half-brother. Reina swore on her life that she will kill Kazuya and destroy the G Corporation. Two options runs across her mind, either she enters the recent tournament announced on the news, or with her family's fortune she can order Dr. Bosconovitch to create a time machine to travel to the past where everything went wrong. With Dr. Bosconovitch's help, Reina's time travel succeed, where she arrived 3 years before her father's disappearance. "Heihachi, my father... On my life, i swear i'll kill Kazuya and i will save you!" says Reina. Without any hesitation, Reina entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. This is her chance to face Kazuya.

<King’s Prologue> Armor King was murdered. King swore upon Armor King’s grave that he would seek revenge against the man responsible for his mentor’s death. The murderer was serving time in an Arizona State Penitentiary. With the money he earned from professional wrestling tournaments, King arranged for the murderer’s release. King then sent him a plane ticket and an article about The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. With his plans in motion, King headed for the Tournament to await his sworn enemy, the Vale Tudo fighter.

<Helene Sage prologue> Proud Parisian savate champion prodigy Helene Sage has won numerous championships around the provinces of France. She became so renowned in the French capital that the prime minister of France made her a national icon. However, her popularity made her a target of the syndicate who plans to kidnap her in order to extort her family for money. They tried to capture Helene, only to be foiled either by her savate fighting skills or the authorities protecting her. After failing many attempts to capture Helene, the syndicate instead captured her mother and father who were on vacation in Monaco. They’re holding them hostage demanding three-billion euros in exchange for their release. Helene felt devastated and powerless about the news. A week later, Helene received a letter sent by the syndicate containing a threatening note and a flier to the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. Believing that she had no other choices in regards to her parents’ safety, she accepts their demands and enters the tournament. Helene hopes that by winning the tournament, she will earn enough prize money to buy her parents’ freedom.

<Max Kilroy prologue> Highway patrol officer Max Kilroy patrols the roads on-duty, arresting reckless drivers and enforcing the law in making the streets safe. But ever since the King of Iron Fist Tournaments were being held occasionally, violent crimes and public indecencies were at an all time high. One day on a desert highway, Kilroy pulled over a reckless motorist who was speeding past the truck and issued a ticket. Upon inspecting the driver, he identifies him as Paul Phoenix who appeared on TV after winning the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, confirming his suspicions that he was one of the many participants responsible for the rising crimes after the tournament. Two years later, the announcement that the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 reached Kilroy as reports of violent crime rose in response. He decided to take matters outside the law by entering under a false name, with the intention of arresting the participating fighters and bringing down the entire tournament to a permanent end.

*Leona Heidern* Leona was born in an unnamed village, and spent her childhood there with her family. When Leona was still a child, Goenitz came to her village and demanded to talk to Guidel, Leona's father and the leader of the village. Goenitz requested that Guidel join him in their duties to serve Orochi, as everyone in the village were Orochi bloodline members. However, Guidel refused as he and his family liked peace and not the violent tendencies created by the Orochi blood. Enraged, Goenitz leaves, but not before smiling at Leona. That night, Leona lost control of herself, entering the Riot of Blood, and slaughtered everyone in the village. Goenitz was pleased, and put her blood lust to rest for a time "when he needs her again". After the event, Leona loses her memories and wanders aimlessly until she is found by Heidern, who eventually decides to adopt her. Heidern was taken back by her natural fighting ability, and decides to train her as a warrior under his command. Years later after the king of fighters 97 Tournament, Leona and the Ikari Warriors team adding other member for the 99 edition of king of fighters, "We had a mission, in this tournament Whip has part to the team" say's Leona.

<Diabolos prologue> Diabolos. Cursed and trapped in the body of a demon by the devil gene. He seeks out a scientist who works in the Zaibatsu’s laboratory, Dr. Seto, in curing him from his monstrous form. But instead of treating him, the doctor had Diabolos captured. He awoke to find himself restrained to a gurney as Dr. Seto extracted a sample out of his body. “With the sample you have contributed, Heihachi’s project will be successful!” He said to him, as Diabolos lies helplessly. “You’ve said you can cure me!” Diabolos yelled, “You said that the Zaibatsu had the technology to rid of the devil gene, not to use me as your experiment!” In a rage, he frees himself and destroys Seto’s lab; destroying the samples extracted from him and escaping before guards arrive. Wandering aimlessly, Diabolos looked at himself, reflecting on how everything of what is left of his humanity is slowly fading away. “How long must I stay in this form I’ve despised? There must be another way to rid myself of this devil gene that is eating away inside me.” Searching for a way, he comes across a file stating that an ancient mystical artifact was stored within the confines of the Honmaru temple. Diabolos believes that this artifact could be a cure to the devil gene. With the announcement of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, this is an opportunity for Diabolos to reach Honmaru and claim the artifact.

<Ayesha prologue> Ayesha was just a child when her homeland in Africa fell into a civil war, where a rival faction destroyed her village, killing her family and relatives. She was forcibly recruited to become one of the child soldiers trained by a local warlord who puts her through rigorous and brutal training of firearms, torture, and defendu, a military combative dating back to World War II. Thirty years later, Ayesha finds work as a mercenary taking up contracts from several entities offering bounties for carrying out espionage and assassinations. One contract from G Corporation offered her a bounty on Heihachi Mishima along with an invitation to the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. Hiding in plain sight, Ayesha secretly infiltrates the tournament to get closer to Heihachi and dispatch him.
