Hey Ann...this is COMPLETE CRAP! Do your pH lowering experiment with seawater not fresh water, you will find that the pH will barley change. That's because seawater is 330 times more resistant than fresh water to pH change, and exhaled breath (40,000 ppm CO2) has 100 times more CO2 than is currently in our atmosphere, therefore this is not a legitimate test. Folks this is typical climate alarmist false information. They can’t win the argument with facts, so they lie. Earthʼs oceans are not acidic. Earth's oceans will not become acidic. Ocean pH has stayed between 7.5 and 8.3 since the first measurements were taken, sometime after 1924 when pH measuring technology was invented. A pH reading above 7.0 is alkaline therefore the oceans are not acidic. It is a false statement to claim, or imply, something is acid when it clearly is alkaline. What we have here is “climate alarmist science” a t work. Itʼs different from real science, no verification of claims is required. Remember the climate alarmist claims from the 1970s? ʻNuff said. Earth is a closed system. It was born with all the carbon/carbon dioxide it will ever have in one form or another. Earth doesnʼt magically acquire CO2 from outer space and manʼs influence on CO2 levels in the air or the ocean are inconsequential. Earthʼs soil, water and air have always contained CO2. Human blood pH is kept between 7.35 and 7.45 primarily by the lungs and kidneys via a self buffering system. Stabile blood pH is so important that you canʼt change it by eating an alkaline diet (for improved health) as some have claimed. Critters that live in the oceans, including the hard shelled ones, have this ability too. They are not going to dissolve. An actual marine biologist would know better than to make the claims you see here. Like human blood, SEAWATER IS SELF BUFFERING. If it werenʼt our oceans would have been made acidic eons ago due to underwater volcanic eruptions and methane vents, life would not exist. Sea water naturally contains 45 to 60 times more dissolved CO2 than our atmosphere. Then thereʼs the Revelle factor. The Revelle factor determines that if the atmospheric CO2 were doubled (from the current 415 ppm) it would only cause a 10% increase in oceanic CO2. When was the last time a climate alarmist mentioned those two last items? Real science has no need to mislead. Thumbs down on this presentation, itʼs purposefully misleading.

Complete Crap. The oceans are not acidic. Their pH is between 7.5 and 8.3. Alkaline. Seawater is self buffering and cannot become acidic. What's the pH in your test jars Ann? DISINFORMATION.

We have only tried this ourselves with oyster shells, but in theory the chemistry should be similar for any shell made from calcium carbonate.
