If the creator of the first one really wanted to make this convincing, they could've included dialouge that plays in the opening cutscene that indicates that they know this is a cracked version of the game. Like " Today, I would've told you the story of The Thousand-Year Door. However, it's clear you're using illegal means to play this game." Something like that. Would've made it 100x times more realistic. People should take notes from real anti-piracy measures and in-game mechanics instead of just focusing on the horror aspect. Make the player feel safe while making their gaming adventure 10x more difficult and eventually leave them stuck at one point of the game they can't get past, leaving them soft-locked and then springing out that the only way to progress further is to buy a legitimate copy of the game.

That PS2 one is BRILLIANT. It hits exactly all the scary childhood things: 1. Static on screen 2. PS2 RSOD or disc-read-error 3. Memory Cards erased for no reason
