Still one of my favorite performances of the song specifically for the actor playing the captain. He fits the role so effortlessly, being both charming and dorky in the right measures

She doesn’t pull him across the stage by his ear or even so much as smack him with her fan. I suppose that counts as double-shotted guns in the 21st Century. 🙄

Why was it sung slowly the first time? The second time through was done at the right speed. The encore should have been fast enough for each whole verse to be sung in one breath. 😮💨

Love it! The characters' scheming comes through so clearly in even this short excerpt without the dialogue, and the voices are perfect.

Loved the voices and orchestra, perhaps a little more punch. Hate the staging and terrible costumes.

@@pops1507 it's certainly fitting given the lyrics. "divine emolument" means like a blessing from above, you probably knew that already of course 😉.....there's another recording where they do go down on their knees and some on just one knee which I think is acceptable too. Obviously for high school/college cast there should be no issue with it

What bothers me about this performance is the lack of care taken i the costuming of the principal. There is another comment about the fact that Sir Joseph is lacking in dignity. It is true that he should be more dignified, because it was his rising up in public notice that got him his positio, so the dignified presence should contrast with his confessed ignorance. To this end, as part of his dignified bearing, his hat should be worn appropriately, not stuck on the back of his head. He needs to APPEAR to fit the part. Similarly, he is missing his essential white linen at the neck. , and the collar is cut sufficiently low to make this very apparent.

Doesn't it bother you that one of the women is not British but is clearly Asian?
@MultiDOUBTINGTHOMAS7 жыл бұрын
British subjects come in all ethnicities, and many of them are Asian. This should not bother anyone.
@MandyJMaddison7 жыл бұрын
When putting together an Opera chorus, the first question is "Can they sing?" The second question is "Can they move around the stage without crutches and/or a guide dog?" If the answer to these two questions is "Yes", then matters such as ethnicity are of no problem.
