I have my outboard maxed out on the ecu with a digital tune. I modulate the efficiency the old fashioned analogue way, i.e. throttle control. If you had to, you could detune the ecu. Even easier, just stuff a dirty old sweatsock into the airbox.

One cannot compare automobiles and boats. Water is 800 times more dense than air without considering tides or currents or wind. Fuel efficiency depends on average weight of the boat. The same boat that typically only carries 2 people needs less HP than if it typically carried 6 passengers. More HP means the boat with more load can perform better. The bigger HP doesn't have to work as hard to achieve the same performance of the same boat with lower HP so will likely get better or similar fuel economy but will last longer as it simply doesn't have to run at as high RPM to gain similar performance.

My 30 footer with twin 300s gets the same fuel economy as my friends 26 with twin 150s but is way faster!
@FlatlanderGear12 сағат бұрын
These things aren’t predicted linearly but I can say these things: 1. More cylinders tends to result in more mechanical friction in the engine. Idle/trolling fuel economy using similar parts between two different engines, will be different between a V6 and V8 with similar cylinder displacement. The V8 will burn more fuel idling and trolling. 2. Knowing this, with equivalent propping, the larger displacement engine with more cylinders will usually burn more fuel for the same trip than the smaller displacement engine at low loads and engine speeds. 3. At mid range, this will tend to flip in a lot of cases. The larger displacement engine may burn less fuel at cruise because it will tend to spin at a lower rpm at a higher torque than the smaller displacement engine, resulting in less friction and heat for the same shaft horsepower produced. 4. At high loads, with equivalent parts, a similar trend as #4 is seen until you exceed the applied hp of the smaller displacement engine. 5. Any deviation from these is a result of hull design, differences in engine weight, different engine brands, drastic differences in engine construction, 2 vs 4 stroke, motor age, motor condition, propping, lower unit ratios, fuel quality and many more.

But at the end every engine has horsepower and torque. Engine should not care what's happening outside... Still think car engines could be used in a boat 🧐🤔

The antifouling of the brand Hempel makes your boat sail faster (5 km/h). It concerns the Silic One of Hempel. Is silicone based. Algae and shells cannot adhere well and what is on the hull comes loose as soon as you start sailing. If the hull has been treated according to the instructions, you do not have to sand it before the next treatment (every 2 to 3 years). A good cleaning is sufficient and then you can apply the Silic One again.

What's a better flush, run on a hose with muffs for 15 minutes, or flush through flush port with engine off? Any sense in using salt away when flushing on muffs and running the engine? I usually flush when I get back home a few hrs after use, or the following morning...

I think the problem with bottom paint is when you have layers from multiple years flaking off and then causing significant drag.

As outboards get more and more expensive, it becomes more important for them to be reliable. Suzukis are cheap, efficient, reliable, and easy to work on compared to new Mercs right now so the market has spoken, it’s a well-deserved takeover.

What about running it on “ear muffs” to flush the engine of salt water? Does that same threat still exists of burning the impeller up. Wanting to run it long enough to let the thermostat open and really flush the salt out.

Do you recommend flushing with saltaway when you use the boat in salt water. The literature says flushing with Saltaway requires only 2 or 3 minutes, leaves no residual and is 10x better than fresh water alone. Thoughts?

I don't know what is going on in Florida or other parts of the country but in the southwest, particularly California, boating is slowly dying out. People who can afford a used boat try to tow them with light duty SUV's and trucks, homes are so expensive and they don't have a place to store the boat (or the driveways for a real truck) and our gas is double what is in most of the country. So many young people don't even know how to install a battery, forget about maintenance. Our launch ramps have been getting less use since the early 90's.

Kalifornia is a train wreck so I imagine people can’t afford a boat, the fuel, the insurance etc. Add in the nut job “environmentalists”, the vitriol they spew for anything using dyno fuel and the regulations designed to be punitive, I can see boating dying…voting has consequences.

We see here in Sweden and we don’t have so salt water like u guys I Florida have but people that have ther boat in the sea all year around the engine break frome corrosion between 6-11 year. And most because of the mls gasket when the netril coating peel off so it is stainless against the aluminum

I installed a vevor on a buddies boat. The helm component had Seastar cast into the housing. They could easily be assembled in the same factory. As far as seals my guess would be lower quality perhaps but 3 years and 300+ hours on his motor with no issues.

Are the Yamaha 425 and 450 as reliable as the f300 and down the hp range. I have had Yamaha's my entire life from 90 hp to 250 and have never had a problem only thing I spend money on is to service them. Not much out there on their new V8'S given the f350 v8 didn't go as planned for Yamaha. would love to hear some of the 450's common issues

The decked out boats-syndrome is global and goes beyond boats : trucks, cars, motorcycles, hell even atv's have evolved to these tech'd out 30 grand aberrations that have everything from powersteering and 8 speaker sound systems to heated b-plugs. It's everywhere, all the major manufacturers are in on it and it's fuckin stupid. I just want a hull and just enough horsepower to shit myself when I go WOT. No electric boogaloo required. Great video.

I'm only in fresh water but I flush every time. Normally I just hook up the muffs and run the motor for 5 or 10 minutes but I always feel like I should be using a chemical flush. What do you think?

so it's a sprinkler timer?? if I flush my outboard for years on that stupid flushing fitting. then why did my fuel cooler clogged completely up? my advice to everybody is to never ever use that flush fitting on the motor!!!!! run the motor get it up to temperature.
@randyosburn53313 күн бұрын
Depends on where you live Aaron. If you live/fish in an estuary with both fresh and brackish waters, your put in point is typically in creeks which have much lower salt concentrations. So, really don’t have to worry about flushing in that case.
@outtolunch8813 күн бұрын
Yeah, there's a lot to do when you get in. #1 - Flush engine(s) long enough for the thermostat to open #2 - Unload crap while flushing #3 - Hosedown / soap wash #4 - Less important stuff My 1982 Johnno looks like it's age but still goes hard. If you use premix 2-stroke and can disconnect the fuel line, run it dry at the end of the flush to stop the carbie gunking up.
