Speedo swimwear first began in Australia. Today they are still worn by casual swimmers and Olympic competitors. Divers can be seen wearing them. Australians now call them Budgie Smugglers but Speedos still make the swimbriefs but speedos now sell them on their website here in the UK. Speedos also promote aquatic competitions at the Olympic games. Budgie Smugglers swimbriefs are made and sold in their shops on line in Australia and make them fun to wear in the pool and on the beach. What started out as a skit to Speedos they have turned into a business.

@@johntaylor6345 Absolutely, when we are in our normal clothes we are a bit reserved. But, once we wear our Speedo swim briefs our mindset changes, we become confident and much more forward when we talk to our fellow swimmers.

When I was 17 I went to school in jeans, shirt and tie. My maths teacher and guidance teacher both had a word with me about it which I chose to ignore and they eventually gave up. It was in 1994 so looking back, I'm sure that my actions were influenced by this programme. But I'm not sure whether this combo was legitimate uniform for Australian kids.

I wore far briefer Speedos than those in the 1980's , along with things that were basically men's string bikini pants and left little to the imagination. Mind you, on the beaches I frequented, close to100% of the women under the age of 30 were topless, mostly wearing little more than tiny g-string bikini bottoms, while few people took much notice if the occasional young woman chose to sunbathe fully nude. ❤💯

Speedo was originally an Australian company. Today they are based here in the UK. Years ago Australians called them Budgie Smugglers. Australians produce swimbriefs which they call Budgie Smugglers. They can be bought on line and you can have any thing you want on them. I personally buy and wear speedos swimbriefs and have done for years. I started wearing speedos when I was learning to swim in junior school. I have always been body confident so don't have a problem wearing them.

Home and Away and Neighbours regularly had young male characters wearing speedos in the pool and on the beach scenes. I remember Jason Donavon wearing them on screen with Kylie Minogue as Scott said Charlene.

Totally agree, I've been wearing swim briefs since high school. Swim briefs are just practical, I cut through the water unlike with shorts. Easy to wash, plus it is a good motivator to stay in shape.

@@dansantos1659 Brilliant answer. I love wearing speedos for the same reason. Nice fitting. I can wear them under my shorts and they are very quick to dry.. At the beach I leave them on when I come out of the water and allow the heat of the sun to dry them while I'm wearing them.

A lot of Australian soaps like neighbours and home and away would have scenes featuring the young male characters wearing speedos. Jason Donavon would wear them during his beach scenes with Kylie Minogue. Speedos were first worn in Australia by men who competed in the Olympics.
