I've been tring many things to get this to work, including using SR-IOV to passthrough the NIC our switches mirrored port is directly connected to, through directly to the VM. I looked over all the documentation you lined to, which has a bit more information that others I've looked at, so thank you for that, but I still can't get it to work. What else might I be missing?

Sadly enough, that was a test Virtual Machine I've destroyed some months ago, but it is simple to reproduce, Actually I'm pretty busy but I'm planning to recreate a new Security Onion machine to do more experiment. Your suggestion to share the PCap is really welcomed, in the future I'll try to have it available with the video.

Thank you for the solution. It helped me to receive mirrored traffic on my virtual Security Onion sensor. Another problem that I faced is to receive traffic that contains nested VLAN tags. It seems MS Hyper-v does not support QinQ tagging :(

I generated a stupid payload with MsfVenom, uploaded in a virtual machine in my azure cloud account and downloaded with a couple of test machine of mine, nothing complex, I've simulated a user clicking to some malicious link.
