What a great video, i got an amazing shot but i was wondering why my extraction starts at 9 bars but within 7-10 seconds it declines to 7 bars? Is it that i need to grind finer? What I'm trying to achieve is 3 bar infusion for 12 seconds and i do that by after pressing the manual button, i open the water valve very carefully so i wouldn't stop the extraction and then close it after infusion to hit 9 bar.

@SteveHowkins Do you know whether the OPV is now correctly set with new sales of the SDB?
@SteveHowkins3 ай бұрын
@@hash5191 I doubt it. I think you have to keep in mind the 10.5 they are set at is pump pressure and not at the puck. Without using a scace type device (which I’m sure someone has done) it’s difficult to tell what pressure the puck is seeing. With all the recent testing I think pressure is less of a concern for getting an enjoyable shot. Past talk has put an emphasis on 9 bar shots when in reality you probably won’t taste the difference if it’s more.

Hi, thanks for the video. Interesting points. I have found that RDT isn't needed (it made no difference to my retention and static) and if you do away with that the issue you mention of beans sticking to the anti-popcorn forks almost disappears completely. Similarly, when adjusting the grind setting it's fine with the grinder off and if it's on then a gentle push of the bellows sorts it out (the noise/tightness) as it's caused by air flow, given how tightly engineered it is - appreciate you don't like bellows. You may also want to remove the adjustment collar if you don't like the look, you don't need it unless you are switching burrs. I used to have a Eureka grinder, so this thing is next level for me!
@SteveHowkins5 ай бұрын
Now the burrs have settled a little I may grind a few doses without RDT and see what happens. Anything to reduce the workflow is good thing to me. That’s true. Didn’t think it could be the moisture! That’s for the info on the noise. No damage being caused then, excellent. I did think about removing it but then there will be a mark from the grub screw (to be expected) and seeing that will annoy me haha.
@briantaylor15955 ай бұрын
@SteveHowkins yeah, the collar doesn't look great but it doesn't bother me really - to your point on the finishing, it's a shame they didn't make the collar or the fixing mechanism a bit cleaner!

@SteveHowkins6 ай бұрын
Not bothering at all. So the pressure changes but I don’t think the flow rate does. That is dependant on the grind. So at 77 in order to get a 9 bar shot I had to grind finer than at 87 as the machine was doing the work there. If you want 6/7 bar shots then yes use a lower pp and grind the same. All trial and error really. Puck prep and the coffee used make a difference.

Hey man, great video. I've been watching your videos about the dual boiler for a while now and I really like them. Ive got one here myself as well and I had a lot of hesitation when It came to opening it up and voiding the warranty. I just wanted to say that if I could give you one piece of advice is just go for it.. .adjusting the OPV to 9bars its extremely easy and once you've done that, you have so much freedom to play around with pre infusion time and pressure before even getting to 9bar full pump pressure... It will open a whole new world for you!! I know voiding the warranty is not ideal but the reality is that if you take good care of your machine, chances are your machine will live way past the warranty period anyway with no issues. regards from Australia.
