A great video but please remember another DW record was also broken - in the Folding Boat class. Tom Rendell and Joe Maynard smashed the course record by 32 minutes to finish in 21 hours and 53 minutes. An extraordinary paddle. 😊

Everyone who has ever tried and not finished should listen to this. DW is like no other event. Having done numerous Iron Man Tri's and some of the really long ultra marathons, they are always races that you are likely to finish. DW is not like that, but it gets to you like nothing else

Another great video. A fantastic edition of the race. Of course, huge congratulations to the record makers and all the other crews. Also, I agree with your comments about the DW organisation and their response to the situation. It took considerable diplomatic skills, clear thinking and guts.👏👏👏

Great film. I finished junior D/W 1969 with Bill Starling ( great bloke ), Met Police cadets. So very pleased to see Westminster Bridge, nearly capsized pulling over to the steps. We spent the previous night in a tent, my sleeping bag and spare clothes soaking wet. Spent the night frozen -- we had a frost. Never so pleased to survive the night!!!!!!

You missed a trick - don't take the canal between Loch Oich and Loch Ness - take the River Oich (downstream grade 1 and 2 rapids are quite manageble)

I read the rules and it said you can't use a USCR cruiser which is what a V1A is (rules must have changed)

Using a V1A cruiser (good Boat) but can you use a pro boat.A Clipper P3 would be my choice!!

I wept my entire way through this!!!! Just wonderful stuff, I’m so impressed. I’ve been support crew at the DW (that was hard enough haha!) and I’m also a patient at the Royal Marsden, very luckily all better now - and this is just magical. THANK YOU. Will donate now. Love from Caro x

Hi Matt. Not sure of the answer to that specifically but when Roger filmed this video, on his first run all the way up to the highest point to get the on board shots (he wasn't stopping much to film other shots along the way), he took about 3 hours 10 mins out and back. This included going up the east channel to the pub as well as the west channel up to Botley. He stopped his watch just after the M27 bridge on the way back but by that point there's water whatever the tide. He wasn't paddling hard but then again, he wasn't bimbling either and he did take breaks along the way. Hope that helps?

I was looking for the 3 routes you mention. There's the great glen, and Liverpool to Humber. But I can't find the 3rd. What is it please? Thanks

Nice footage but where is the excitement and the drama? Lets face it this was a very dramatic event. Im afraid the music simply does not work, it keeps promising but but does not deliver. A shame really as this could have been a true dedication to the event.
@thecanoeshow8 жыл бұрын
Not really sure what to say to that Jed. The concept of portraying Slalom as a kind of ballet obviously didn't work for you. This video was not about the event (we covered that in a more dynamic style in the race report and with Helen's run down the course in Show 5). We've also created so many dynamic portraits of Slalom in the past that we felt it was time to look at things differently. "Dancing on Water' is simply about luxuriating in the fluidity of movement, the skill of the paddlers and the emotion of competition. The event itself is incidental but, in this case, it did provide a superb backdrop.
@hotdogproductions65268 жыл бұрын
Hi there . Fair comment about the event and concede that point and have to say that the footage is superb. And I know what you mean about portraying the sport differently. And i'm not for one moment suggesting a complete slo-mo piece. I just can't reconcile the speed of the onscreen action with the pace of the music. Still, each to their own.
