If your average count is per say 30 plants per square foot.. what is the range or variability in your plant count per square foot ? mine was 20-37 this wk on my own wheat stands which I thought is highly variable !
@RealAgricultureMediaКүн бұрын
There’s definitely variations there, but it’s not uncommon to vary between 20-37 plants/ft2 in individual plant counts. If you have concerns about the field being variable, it is helpful to count more spots to get a good average. Keep track of the numbers over multiple fields/years to see how different factors (seeder, soil conditions, etc) change the emergence % and variabilities. Hope it helps! - Ruoxi Xia, Alberta Grains

Why does it matter if the grass gets long?
@RealAgricultureMedia2 күн бұрын
Because too long/tall and the plants will cover the panels, decreasing the amount of power captured

Pete, what's the deal with wheat seeding around Apr 8 on eastern ND. There is no wheat growing in streaks throughout the field. It is coming up spotty finally but a whole month behind the same wheat in same field. Moisture was nice and even when planted.

Yes indeed, they will have to switch to a shorter corn variety, but unfortunately , everyone scrambling needs the same thing. Another option is a switch to soybeans, but then they run into rotational problems with back to back soybeans on the same ground as last year. Might have to go get some sunflower seed as they are similar to corn with a stalk and root ball.

There is no doubt that considerations presented in this video are real and need to be addressed. They have been! It is not remotely correct to say that it is the wild west when it comes to spraying with drones. All of this testing has been completed by competent and reliable organizations from universities to governing agencies of countries world wide. Why is this not mentioned in this interview? The exclusion forces me to believe this is planned misinformation and farmers are being misled. This guy presents himself as an authority and I am certain he is aware of the world wide approvals and testing. Why does he omit these facts? The spray drones have sprayed millions of acres around the world. Considering that pretty much the rest of the civilized world has approved the technology should speak to effectiveness and safety. The word "sloppy" is also misleading. Compared to what? The prop wash vortexes created with drones introduces control, it does not reduce control as this interview suggests. The penetration of the thrust is desirable, not the opposite as Jason suggests. In fact most of what is mentioned regarding potential issues of imperfection like striping could should be challenged in regard to "compared to what" testing. Helicopters? Planes? Ground rigs? None of what is discussed is dangerous to people or property. Most of all, the PMRA should be seriously challenged regarding the timeline of studies. Is the data acquired which led to approvals in the USA, Europe, South America and Asia useful and could be considered as accurate? Is every other country in the civilized world wrong about the use of spray drones? In this video he estimates a personal opinion of two years before approvals are starting to exist in Canada. There is nothing reasonable about this at all. The team assembled to perform these studies should be challenged. Something is seriously wrong with the way this issue is being treated. Canadian farmers are being deprived of all benefits of spraying with drones. Spray drones sure are not here to replace ground rigs at all however, it is a fantastic tool for farmers to have in their tool box. I do not understand why this fear mongering is accepted.

So your UAN over there is 28%? Ours here in Australia is about 42. No wonder I burned our wheat! And it sounds like your intention is to not get any on leaf - no leaf absorption? I’ve been trying for leaf absorption. 👍
@WheatPete24 күн бұрын
We dilute UAN to 28% so it does not salt out under cold temperatures. My guess is your UAN is 32%, I believe that is as high as you can get into solution. We use 32% UAN in season when it won't be stored over winter. Spraying straight 28% or 32% right on the leaf with fine droplets (herbicide nozzles) will definitely burn the leaves. Very little N is absorbed through the leaf regardless, roots have evolved to take up N, not leaves. Even when a safer N source is applied in a foliar application, at least 90% is washed off the leaves and taken up by the roots in most studies that have looked at this.

@@oldfartonabmx2122 Brochure shows 42.5% weight per volume. 32% weight per weight. 32% is all that can dissolve on a weight per weight basis. Fertilizer nitrogen is always reported on a weight per weight basis here. Not sure in Australia.

I use organically grown wheat for my stone milling, I get my Ontario grown wheat from 1847 Milling in Fergus. I’m wondering if you could address best growing practices for organic wheat in Ontario?! One has to wonder how on earth organic farmers get enough nitrogen on their wheat!?
@RealAgricultureMedia27 күн бұрын
Great question! And nitrogen is often a limiting factor in organic production and why yields are often far lower. N needs are addressed through working down "green manure,' ie. a cover crop with legumes that fix N, organic-approved fertilzers, and actual manure. We'll pass this on to Pete, too! - LS
