Thanks so much for this video, helped me so much (and still will in future). Turned out the plastic connection on the water pump housing was *this* close to sheering off for a long time, as I found out while trying to jiggle the thermostat connection off, and it broke off at the other end, with a huge splash of coolant. Now there's my problem!

There is a plastic connector on the longest hose. I don't recall a plastic O ring. The plastic connector can be replaced with a bronze one of the same size.

Hey, I have mazda tribute lx v6 2002, last week I changed the transmission pan gasket, the mechanic told me that he added more fluid to recompinsate the fluid that it had lost due the leak. Yesterday while going uphill something started to clink and it lost power, I had to shift down to gear 1 to maintain power and to make it stop clinking. On the same hill before changing the pan gasket the car was able to go up on Drive easily with no problem. Do you thing that the problem is the transmission fluid level or something different? The car has around 100k miles not much for a 2002 car. Opinion please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

If your transmission is pretty torn up changing that fluid will take out all the bits and shards of metal that actually help it bite and continue to run unfortunately it means your trannys probably shot

Joon kinloch Hi: I bought it used for my daughter back in 2003. It is a 2001 model and right now it has 145k miles. Been a good investment, taking into consideration that I personally do all its maintenance. This V6 engine is a Ford german-made unit. Very reliable. At one point I bought 5 Ford Escape units for my business (same thing mechanically as the Mazda), and 4 are still running. One was totaled on a accident.

Samson Yaulashvili not sure, but an oil change is a good and cheap try for solving the problem before going the expensive route of overhauling the transmission.

I dont want to start it if the fluids arent correct ya know.plus does it matter at all if i just use regular transmission fluid or does it absolutely need a specific kind
@manflaco5 жыл бұрын
HELLIHIGH I always use Motorcraft Mercon V or better. Go ahead and start the engine. That way the transmission pump will normalize the fluid level and then you can take a good measurement of the fluid. I’m talking of about 10 seconds.

Saludos. Caribbean Express (787) 783-2820 Lydia López.

You have to look well into the center right side of the engine block, under the MAF connection point. Is way down there, a round plastic connector with a screen on the tip. Use a good flashlight, you will find it.

hey I have 2001 ford escape v6 xlt. get crappy mpg. 170 180 full tank. throttle body cleaned so they said well mechanic said. get valve changed about 2 yrs ago. But. I feel i should get more mpg. any tips?
@manflaco7 жыл бұрын
Those V6 engines are known for having leaks on the intake runner silicone seals. They should be replaced after 60-80K+ miles. The symptom is rough idle at cold starts that improves after the engine gets to operating temp. Be aware that there are seals above and under the intake manifold separator. Many people change only the upper ones and forget about the lower ones. If you do the above, change all spark plugs (anyway you will need to remove the intake manifold to replace the three plugs on the rear of the engine). Also try Techron gas treatment and fuel filter replacement.
@prtbone787 жыл бұрын
Jean P. Rochet I bad oil in 2 plugs well when mechanic chafed plugs I had manifold gaskets upper and lower he didn't replace for me because said may need to do I think engine gasket or whatever he said also ran scanner no codes. But I think I'll replace manifold gaskets asap because 140 miles on full tank is ridiculously low to me. got 210 one weekend in a highway trip then next weekend on reg driving city with some a.c usage 140. before he cleaned throttle body had 170 180reg city driving. so something is wrong. And I hate the fact I get low miles. wanna improve that but if it's them gaskets I'll try that. ask I i mention changed valve. meant egr valve. But I'm next owner after the egr was changed may be it's worn and needs replacement. plus read pvc but that's for emissions but if will help gas miles then I'll change too but if won't help then won't. jist asking for tips to improves mpg. thank you for the feedback

Saab Aero: sometimes is easier said than done. What I can tell you is that the other video skips some important steps in the process. Try it yourself and then let us know your comments. On the other hand, please be aware that you only replace the front half of the pump if your are 100% sure that the other half is in very good shape. If the engine did have a previous overheat event, don't do it. Is not worth the small savings. Thanks.

You gave me the confidence to try to do the job myself, very well explained and to the point. Only thing that puzzles me is that the the water pump model you use for your job shows as non-compatible with the 2001 Mazda Tribute in multiple searches. Any thoughts?

Where did you get the lower hose that comes off the water pump I believe it's 5/8 hose for the heater, I can not find it anywhere
@manflaco8 жыл бұрын
Hi whatupfuch: I tried to get those hoses via internet and wasn't lucky. You need to go to a local Ford parts dealer and find them. There are 7 hoses in total. Here are a couple I found on my invoices...(sory, I don't have all of them). XS2Z-8A577-AB SHORT HOSE XS2Z-8A567-AA HOSE The above two hoses go to the pump and plastic manifold. You need to get the other ones that go to a plastic hose manifold that sits besides the pump. Your dealer should be able to show them on the Ford parts diagram. The lower one I show on the video, goes from the pump to the block (front side). It changes depending if you SUV has oil cooler or not. My doesn't. Try to have your VIN number handy. Hope this helps.
