2 trucks would reduce time by a lot you are just spending double on everything. 1 guy is way more efficient that 2 people. When I had my mowing company, 1 extra guy would only increase time by 33% not 100% like you would think. This was the case on hundreds of lawns. So a 30 minute lawn solo could get done in 20 minutes with 2 people. With 2 trucks you have less windshield time though because you can travel in different directions and you don't have 2 people just sitting there.

I think it makes a lot of sense with smaller yards like those 30 minute yards you talk about. But we have more that are kinda like 10 - 20 minutes to weedeat and then 60-70 minutes to cut. But I guess it would work out. I was surprised on this last yard of the day solo 2 dollars a minute. There’s no way we do that me and Cody it would have had to Ben done in like 12 minutes and I don’t think it is.

@Southernlawncare So what I do is I put 2 mowers on those. I tell the weedeat guy to go mow this section or whatever-run a mower for 15 minutes.- then he goes and starts the weedeating. Gotta get the mowing time down to make better time- When the mowing becomes the bottleneck that's an easy fix , put another mower on site. Or are you saying that you run 2 of the mowers for sixty or seventy minutes
@Southernlawncare
@Southernlawncare 24 күн бұрын
@@rayrayslawnlandscape2008 total time on mowers 60 minutes or so. I’m just saying a lot of our yards have way more mowing than weedeating. Of course this is kind of by design with the spray you know.

@@Southernlawncare mine too- i always assigned the second truck solo and i go solo then we meet at the bigger ones. im editing my truck video now and im pretty sure i talk about this
@rayrayslawnlandscape2008
@rayrayslawnlandscape2008 24 күн бұрын
yep running the second truck is a learned process to get a exact duplicate rig where every thing that one trailer has the other one does too. You said it man running the second truck really only saves you time - But that my friend is EVERYTHING! Freeing up time = ability to do more work in the same time frame. So now for instance i can do monday route and 60% of tuesday route all on monday - So by the time i get to thursday/friday i got a whole day and a half that i can incorporate more NEW work. Also it allows you to take on other lawns that with one truck wouldn't make sense. Pretty soon what happens is the second truck has its own routes and wop wop you moving up - till someone quits🤣🤣then its a little harder to get everything done. Now if you had to go out and buy a $50k truck then that mite not make as much sense-at this point but if i got a truck im already paying for just sitting while we running one truck for 12 hr day then its a no brainer when the schedule is loaded. Its a real learning process but once you get it figured out its gold

100% doing the right things, especially in your situation. Mike Andes has said this several times also. If you are doing it part time, don't have any desire to hire a crew and are just in profit mode, maximize your profits and make it worth your time. You will have to change strategy and mindset if you plan to be in growth mode and want to get there faster. It seems like you guys are just wanting to maximize your side hustle profits and you are going about it the right way for sure.

Yeah man. I’ve thought about it and watched others do videos on it and to be honest I’ve landed on mid season being the best option. Reason being if we hit them with it at the end they have all off season to find someone else. Right now they have us and if we’re doing our part and they are happy with us then why go through the trouble to find someone else? Just my thoughts on that. Thanks for watching.

That’s how I would go about it. Be up front with them and honest as opposed to it’s gonna be this amount now on… frankly I would be ticked off if I was the customer and my lawn company did that to me. Could u pile it up and burn it? Even thoe it's summer i may consider piling it up now and burning it in September- Renting a chipper would be a good option too considering the how flat and dry everything is- Also a 30yd dumpster rental in my area is $450. 12" Chipper about $450 as well. For me my skidsteer the grapple bucket, brush cutter and a 30-40 yard dumpster. What i dont like about a chipper is 1) i gotta go get it 2) it probably cant take all those big trunks. 3) takes labor to run it
@Southernlawncare

Yeah I thought burn but they want to get ready for grass and I was thinking let’s do grass in September you know. And also I could burn but I mean I don’t want to kick the can down the road you know. I’d need a machine to stack and then a machine to burn and keep it pushed up. We took the safest bet and quoted for dumpsters and just get it all gone. There several trees in there. Idk we ain’t herd back either lol so may not have to worry about it.

The only thing that I see that you could possibly need is another landscape trailer for the second truck so you can run Both the trucks mowing grass. That would be a Ballin Pimp move.. Having the ability to run 2 trucks on the mowing and having the dump trailer on the side.You can really do good alot.of work really fast.

Having the dump trailer and additional equipment though might not be the best time, but you can't change that now. So now you got to take on work as you can with dump- But we all know during the mowing season we rarely use dump trailer either. But the dump trailer is a continued very versatile asset that I've had for 15 years. It ain't going nowhere but your money will get better and better. And you will learn different ways to use the dump and learn to make money and or save time The same thing with the walk behind.If you all of a sudden, get more work, you can always put somebody on a mower.. I would not sell my dump trailer without having another 1 to replace it. Great video man

Gotta be smart when your going into business for yourself. I've been in lawncare 37 years and I can tell you that buying that truck was a mistake. I could've bought 3 work trucks for that price. That 10 grand you put down should've bought your work truck and you wouldn't have a payment. All my work trucks are $10,000 or less. That money on the dump trailer would've went towards a trailer big enough to haul all your equipment. Makes no sense to spend that kinda money on a traiker just to sit. All my trailers are 20ft . They'll haul three 60" zero turns or 4 stand ones. You can't make profits when your in debt on all your equipment. That stand on is wasted money also unless your using it on 20 or more yards a week. I got one 36" we use but I use it every day.

I retired from a company after 44 years at the age of 62. Lawn care was something I always wanted to do but never took the chance. I didn’t want to live with no regrets. A motivating reason to make money besides my pension and social security is to offset the high price of healthcare insurance under the age of 65. Been doing this over one year and loving it. I always loved to mow lawns since I walked the streets at 10 years old looking for mowing work. I played golf for about 10 years so I love a manicure lawn. My business model is to provide affordable quality lawn care. My prices are not so cheap to be considered a volunteer instead of a business but I don’t price out seniors or single parent individuals. If I was younger and ran it full time this would be my approach. I would operate as a solo operator knowing if I am sick or equipment is damaged or stolen then I am out of work for a time. I would take a portion of profits to invest. Investing your money makes money while you are sleeping. This is the long term plan to work less in lawn care. Working for someone else will always limit you. Lawn care in my area is year around because of winter rye grass and leaf clean up. Running full time would also mean to move up your pricing to new clients then slowing let go the undesirable yards and lower prices. So in time you can search for clientele that have no problem paying well for your area of expertise. Taking in more revenue with less clients. Lawn care is unique in that it is a repeatable business with the same clients that you choose. Know the difference between a plan and a purpose. A plan is a specific route to a destination. When obstacles appear then the plan may go off course and never be completed to the destination. A purpose does not have a specific route. It is driven and focused on the destination itself. You will adjust to whatever is needed to get there. Figure out your purpose in your business. What is your area of expertise do you bring to the market? Develop the education and skills that will forward your purpose. Take care from San Antonio, Texas.
