SPELLLING

Drawing heavily from messages in her dreams and in the natural world, SPELLLINGs sound spirals through clarity and obscurity searching through landscapes of psychic space. The result is a divine soul music, soft in its restraint but heavy with passion. ‘Pantheon of Me’ was Bandcamp’s #4 record of the year in 2017 and they raved of that sound: “Cabral has it, from her careful sense of composition to her charismatic presence to her ability to communicate with her music straight through to the listener’s heart.” In 2018 SPELLLING signed to Sacred Bones and released ‘Mazy Fly’ to great critical acclaim.
Venturing to push the boundaries of her primarily synth-based work, SPELLLING took on the ambitious task of orchestrating and self-producing an album that features an ensemble of 31 collaborating musicians. ‘The Turning Wheel’ is a manifestation of this considerable effort, time, and collaborative energy and has become a career-defining opus for the artist.

I just found this album today and OMG lady, or I should say Queen, but you now have fan for life. I can't remember hearing an album that is such a beautiful listen that first time around that it brought me to happy tears (last one was Julia Holter's "Have you in my Wilderness"). I only reserve my vinyl collection for the finest and I have now purchased the vinyl for this. How on god's green earth did this not even pick up a single Grammy nomination, let alone win any?

By far my favorite track of the album (Little Deer comes in second) with the gorgeous instrumentation that reminds me a lot of The Sims and a very unique and lovely voice ❤ I can absolutely see why Fantano gave this album a 10-I gave it a 9.3 personally 💞
