Nice work but sorry to say that your vinyl top has a combination of smooth and rough texture. It should be all even out. 😮

Plasti-Dip. light layers and build up to how you like it.

I do the same technique with the exact same foam. The difference that I do is use decanted primer first. you can work it longer and it tends to level itself out and give a more subtle texture. Primer also comes off easier with alcohol if your not happy. Then paint.

If you would have painted a final coast of flat black it would have made all the difference........................................

I was interested in the technique you used and experimented a bit with it. I found what’s called dauber brushes a Dollar General and masked off my model, mixed up Testers bottle paint of 2 drops each of flat black and gloss black and one drop of mineral spirits and used the smallest dauber in the pack and just kept daubing for several minutes. The dryer it got the better it looked. The dauber brushes have smaller pores so it doesn’t leave the larger bumps that you had. Thanks for this wonderful technique, I’ll be using, stealing your idea on other builds going forward. I know this is a long read, sorry, I was going to try using black duct tape for the top but chickened out on that idea. May try to find a trash body and try it that one to see how it turns out.

Thanks for watching. I thought for sure my videos were long buried in the algorithms. Next time I try this technique I’m going use acrylic paint. The oil based enamel ate up the sponge and it started to fall apart. Yeah…I too thought of the tape and imagined it peeling up over time. Curious, what are you building? I love this amazing hobby and it’s nice to share with like the minded. Thanks again for watching. JC : )

1966 Chevelle Street Rat. Its tried my patience the whole way. I think I got a can of old paint, cause the silver undercoat has done well but the topcoat not so much. I wanted that light ice blue metallic that GM used in the 60s. I used the entire can to try to get it right and tried to order another can but it’s been discontinued. Maybe that’s why. Hey! Thanks for responding back. I kinda noticed some negative comments on this and I don’t know about you but I don’t have tons of money to sink in to this hobby like some of these guys on here and I’m not taking em to shows anyway. My wife, son and granddaughter are the only ones besides me that actually see em.@@jcgabis5546

Hi I’m so sorry for not responding earlier. I bought mine at “Hobby Lobby”. And It’s one of Tamiya’s products. If I remember correctly it was about $25 bucks. I just did a quick search and Amazon…(TAMIYA 74522 Spray Work Painting Stand Set) $19.64 on sale. Best of luck, JC : )

I love the editing and the humor on your videos! You deserve more views, IMO! I wish I had seen this *before* I started this model myself, but KZbin buried it. I'm new to model cars, but jumped into this determined to heavily modify it to look as close to my real hit rod as I can manage... I'm on like week 7 now, been working on it every day. Almost finished now!

Fancy! My close up eyesight just started slipping within this last year. I do pretty much all of my detailed work under a good sized lighted magnification lense now. I also build tiny circuit boards for a living, and it is interesting to look at different things under my work microscope. Hey, I'm working on this Roadster model too, and enjoy your videos. I really hope you post more of your purple T build.

Your editing is cracking me up! 😂 It's great! Im doing this model right now. I'm not very experienced with model cars, the instructions and fitting on this kit are pretty lousy, and my wife just bought me my first airbrush this last Christmas... So I'm learning, and videos like yours are helpful! I'm jumping right in and customizing the crap out this kit to try and make it look like my real life T-Bucket hot rod. ...it's a struggle, and a learning experience, but I'm fabricating a lot of parts as I go. ...hoping I don't mess things up too badly! I will be watching your videos for sure!

I’ve seen “Primed Model Werks” use superglue and gunmetal pigments before but not baking soda. That’s interesting. Thank you for your comment. I’ll have to look into that. It’s great to learn about new techniques. JC
