Nice great tutorial , but… Needs to be studied with a piano each ( voice )first , then the harmony will be clear. It’s like another language for a musician. Reading texts in to music. Great job! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Haha! Interesting - can’t say I’d have any expertise on that style but I’m sure it would be worth a try. We really like Bruce Molsky’s version, if you haven’t heard it (though it is very much in the same old-time vein).

Oh, I just saw, "Supporters get access to PDF Sheet music of the canons". Okay, I'll write it out myself ;-)
@TheSingingFamilyChannel3 ай бұрын
Thanks for listening. I’m happy to share a pdf for this if you’d like - no need for you to transcribe it! We like to teach by ear as much as possible because, while written sheet music is obviously a very helpful tool and reference, we believe that learning by ear is a more efficient way to transfer music (or poetry or scripture) directly onto the tablets of our hearts. Our hope is that students will be able to memorize the music (and the passage of scripture) in the amount of time that it takes to watch the video. My experience has been that using sheet music as a reference can be very helpful, but it can also sometimes slow down the process of memorization. Either way, happy to share the pdf if you email me at Nate at thesingingfamily dot com. Thanks again and happy singing!

@@TheSingingFamilyChannel Right on! Literate musicians usually have a TERRIBLE time memorizing! Thank you for the offer, but I'm done transcribing now. Keep up the great work!

And what is a scripture canon?
@TheSingingFamilyChannel6 ай бұрын
Excellent question! A canon could also be a called a 'round' - a type of composition where multiple voices sing the same melody at different times to create a layered harmonic / polyphonic texture. We have a brief video explaining it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4fWc36VgJdqj6s&ab_channel=TheSingingFamily

I'm a widow. Children are adults. I'm hoping to learn to read music and sing parts and lend my encouragement to my daughter and her family. I enjoyed listening to Silent Night. Yes, it should have been easier. Unfortunately, it wasn't. But maybe it will get that way soon.😊😅 Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Keep it up! As with anything, it gets easier with practice!

It was through a movie that I first grasped that concept--that some goals and purposes are multi-generational.
@celestemcmillan86246 ай бұрын
For example, 20 years ago, I would have understood Power In The Blood to be a Baptist hymn. As a young Episcopalian I heard it at a Baptist retreat. It appears Love Unknown began in the Anglican church. That doesn't really tell me where it is today. That you speak of generational is a big vision,
@celestemcmillan86246 ай бұрын
This is a wonderful concept, and a diligent effort. I have to ask from what church? It seems like it might make it easier for your potential watchers if you picked a song that was more widely known? But maybe it is well known in your arm of the church.? Thank you, I am enjoying listening, even though it's entirely unfamiliar to me..
@TheSingingFamilyChannel6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for listening! We aren't affiliated with any church, but are aiming to provide resources for musical discipleship within the family and the local church, to help equip parents for the generational project of providing their children with a musical inheritance. I agree, we'd like to try to do some more familiar hymns as well, mixed in with some less familiar ones that we love. We're mainly focused on scripture canons right now, but we'll be doing hymns in this format at least once a month. Thanks so much for your feedback and I hope you'll keep singing with us!
