I know it's almost sacrilegious to say it, but I much prefer this lovely slow version of Old Molly Oxford - it's hymn-like and very atmospheric - to the faster, bumpier Morris version. It's certainly the way I'd like to play it. Right, I'll be getting drummed out now! (Or perhaps summoned by bells?) ;)

Lovely playing here (especially the harmony, which is scrumptious)

In Continental Mood and Flatworld...a really nice version of both, especially the long slow intro into the first tunes. I love his chording, as always.

I've just found this. Thanks so much for posting it. Andy is a wonderful musician. Cheers and all the best.

Sounds like "old light" and "flat world". Don't suppose Andy said if the dots to "old world" where to be found anywhere?
@woodleybob9 жыл бұрын
+greg bradfield-smith Dots for In Continental Mood and Flatworld are in the Blowzabella tune book "New Tunes for Dancing" and probably elsewhere too (try thesession.org?). Old Light wasn't played here but is on his album (which is lovely if you don't have it)
@tonedumbharry9 жыл бұрын
+woodleybob Thank you for being kind enough to post this. I now have dots for flat world and continental mood and damned tricky to play well, they are. I would still love to find a score for Old Light (I have tried and failed to work it out on my own, more than once)!
@woodleybob9 жыл бұрын
Agree that Flatworld in particular is awkward (chords especially) but worth persisting with.

+woodleybob Melodeon.net tune of the month for December! And you are absolutely right about the chords. The basic tune is nearly there, but not close enough to post and it's nearly 2016. Another one missed :-( 100% respect for Mr Cutting (who first got me seriously interested in the instrument when I saw him play as support for Kate Rusby about 10 years ago. He made it look so easy).

This is AWESOME. How many musical instruments can you play? Also I can't stop staring at the piggy with the big black eyes.
@mirador19879 жыл бұрын
Terry W Aw thank you!! I'm not actually sure, somewhere in the region of 10-15, but a lot of them are largely the same instrument (violin/viola, banjo/mandolin, guitar/ukulele, etc) That's Harry! Harry the pig. There's a song in the pipelines about him, but it's been sidetracked for a while.
@terezawalsbergerova47349 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Davidson Wow that's really cool, shows lots of talent! :) I kind of abandoned my musical education at the age of 13 in the favour of writing, so all I have left now is that I can read music, play a couple of guitar chords and do some (truly rusty) singing (mainly in the shower or during dog walks in the woods) :D. Also, I really want to own a ukulele. Say hi to Harry the pig for me!!! :D
@mirador19879 жыл бұрын
Terry W Shower singing is some of the best singing. It's never too late to learn more things though, if you wanted to! For me, music should just be about enjoying playing it! Get a ukulelelelele! they're really cheap (like £10-£20!). I shall pass on your hello to Harry, he'll be thrilled :-)

Interesting video. I'm guessing, by no least the modern decor, that my taxes are funding your existence. Let's hope your approach to our country is more compelling and worthwhile, although I seriously doubt it.

Uhhhh..the Doobie Brothers didn't record this song, it was DOBIE GRAY. Pretty decent job tho.
@mirador198710 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! (and while Dobie Gray had his biggest hit with his cover version of it, the Doobie Brothers also covered it (although they titled it 'give me the beat') - if you're looking for origins, it was written by Mentor Williams and recorded by John Henry Kurtz. I merely titled it thus as I grew up with the Doobie Brothers version of it, so that's what my cover is largely based off of) :-)
@TheSaleen78610 жыл бұрын
Sorry you are still incorrect my friend. You happened to see another video on KZbin that someone else posted Doobie Brothers " Give Me The Beat Boys" which is NOT the Doobie Brothers either.The Doobie Brothers never recorded this song, they only record and perform their own music. The names" Doobie" and "Dobie" are close thus the mistake that someone else also made and then posted the incorrect artist that you followed on KZbin. I know every Doobie Brothers song and voice in the band from day one for 40+ years, and I have all of the recordings and albums and have seen them hundred's of times since 1970. I spent a weekend with the Doobie Brothers and Steve Miller Band last summer at the concert at Red Rocks Colorado and Sheridan, Wyoming. If you are a fan like me of the Doobie's feel free to go to my Facebook page Larry Goble Denver and click on photos, then albums, then mobile uploads for some cool picture's I took of the Doobie's in concert last summer. I still like your acoustic of the Dobie Grey song that only he recorded. Again, nice job.-Larry G.
