I noticed I posted a few years ago and thought I posted just a couple days ago! That is strange. Not I have seen the movie around 12 times. More than any movie in my life I think! Patricia who has become my favorite actress is outstanding. I guess it was under the radar as they say with not publlicity thus no possible award nominations. Love everything about this movie except that it is sad it is real! Wish it could be stopped like many horrible things happening in the world now.

Haing's life was so tragic. Lost his sick wife because he was unable to treat her as a doctor because if they found out that he was a doctor, they'd consider him as an intellectual who support Western ideals and then kill him.

A beautiful movie that I will hope to see everyone find this.
The music picked for this is bizarre. Talk about the worst possible situations...que upbeat SouthEast Asia music.

When I read first in Readers Diegest (Mukti ke chhor- Sangs Nor,Hindii), about Combodian messacre, I was much shocked. After 30ys back I searched in Utube and found that person (H. NOR) who suffered and wrote that event. My most obligation to the suffered people. From Uttarakhand, India.

seems like the froggys made some rather silly mistakes at waterloo- 1st attack not enough cavalry, then they attack with just cavalry, then they had no cavalry left at the end for the last attack.

Why no mention of Hougoumont Farm at Waterloo? Prof Colson gave some good insights. Interesting to hear a French academic's thoughts. Assuming he is French, Namur University being in Belgium. Why no other contributing academics?

I've watched a lot of documentaries about the Khmer Rouge and seen The Killing Fields movie. Without China's aid, Pol Pot would not have had the means to do what he did, perpetrate pure evil on the small jewel of a country, Cambodia. HAING NGOR survived some of the most unbelievable horrors only to be murdered by a gang in L.A. when he refused to surrender a locket with a picture of his late wife. RIP, he was an amazing man.

But the tragic death of him is still a mystery. I don't know but in one documentary one of the ex Khmer rouge guys confessed that everything was done as per the order Pol pot who died 2 years later. Ngor's life is an inspiration for many and i also consider him as one of my inspirations. But still his tragic death makes me feel sad. He had a lot to give to us, to the new generation. Still whatever he did is well documented and praised.

China’s aid was pure realpolitik. They opposed Vietnam taking over Laos & Cambodia. Khmer Rouge guerrillas post-1978 kept the occupation on the defensive. USA & Europe had same strategic outlook, even though USA opposed KR for so long. Thus the human rights abuses took second place to strategy. Hanoi’s military adventurism played into traditional Khmer suspicions of Vietnamese plans for Kampuchea. I’m not praising all this. Just describing.

Ce n’est pas ironique , c’est catastrophique et honteux pour la civilisation américaine . En France on y arrive lentement mais surement, en Europe aussi , même en Suède ! Les sociétés sont folles , plus un coin tranquille bientôt .
