I liked it. People complained so much about S7 and S8 of GoT lacking the political positioning, slow burn, and quieter character moments of the earlier seasons. HotD S2 had that in spades and I loved it (yes, even Daemon tripping in Harrenhal. In the book, there’s like a single paragraph of text about what he does. They can’t just sideline their second top billed actor the entire season, and it did come with a resolution that settles him well into place for his later arc). That finale scene of armies marching to war, that feeling of all the pieces set up over the season being in place for the chaos to follow, AND AN ENORMOUS THREE DRAGON FIGHT this season? Same feels as Dany marching out of Astapor in S3 of GoT. Let them cook.

So many of us felt this way. Not a bad episode. Some great scenes but the whole of season two, not much happened. Two great scenes with Rhaenyra and Alicent this season. So good. The season on the whole as okay. I didn’t expect a lot of battles because they are so expensive but Daemon’s whole plot line was a waste of time and lots of talking about loyalties but nothing has changed since season one other than Rhaenyra net +1 dragon (possibly +2 depending on what the girl in the Vale does with hers), Aegon net -1 dragon. A couple of good scenes and some nice battles but little disappointing season for the most part.

Season one had some much tension between the family members. It was amazing. Season two with the families divided the interaction was between the family members and the councilors. But those characters weren’t really setup and we don’t see them doing anything outside of council so tension and dramatic dialogue was down this season. We got some great battles and great scenes between the queens. So for me it was good season but not great like season one. I am enjoying this show and looking forward to season three 🙂

@@GentleGiantJason I’m definitely still looking forward to Season 3! As a WoT fan, I understand wanting your big name actors (Matt Smith-or Rosamund Pike if we’re talking WoT) to have something to do even if-to be perfectly book accurate-they might’ve been pushed to the background in this particular season. I realllllyy think 10 episodes could’ve turned this season into something INCREDIBLE, if we got a payoff after all the buildup, but instead this season was basically just all build up haha. I love the drama tho so I still enjoyed it overall.

They very clearly wrote ten episodes, got told it had to be 8 instead, and then did not have time before they anticipated the strikes starting to actually condense and rewrite from scratch so that it had an appropriate pace for an 8 episode season.

HBO execs cut the finale two episodes, there were definitely supposed to be a total of ten episodes but the decision was made in during the time of the writers strike and the execs cut the episodes to lessen the cost on production.

They didn't need 10 episodes they needed not to have wasted the ones they had. Episode 5&6 was a complete waste of time and space where nothing much was established or happened. These episodes may have had titbits of info but it got lost in the meandering plot where Daemon was left in an acting coma for a lot of seasons only to smile at Sir Alfred and tell them this place will make you bark at the moon something audiences have been doing for weeks now with this show.

I stopped watching HOTD midway through season 1-there was more gore, gratuitous nudity, and scenes for shock value than I liked. But I like your content and wanted to hear your thoughts. I know the first episode with that birthing scene was as hard for you as it was for me. Anyway, I am here commenting to feed the algorithm and say... I just love the Wheel of Time; it's so different, in a good way, to HOTD even though they are in the "same genre." The main thing they have in common now, I guess, is, wouldn't it all be better if we had more episodes?

Super bummed. Ten episodes would have been perfect BUT they didn't even need that. This season was stuffed to the gills with way too much filler, like the never-ending Daymon Weirwood hallucinations. So much that could have been trimmed to give us most of this battle (maybe upto a critical turning point to leave a clifhanger). I'm soo sick of modern TV shrinkflation, giving us less and less content, more and more infrequently, and charging more and more. It's just greed and laziness on the part of the studios and the "creatives". The 90's era producers that knocked out 22-26 episoides every single year worked for their pay, and their content (the writing especially) was often superior.

I finally caught up on HOTD yesterday -- I almost didn't want to watch it because last season didn't hit me right. Like, it was weird, I was watching it, and able to recognize that it is "good tv", and not enjoying the experience of watching. I think it just made me feel bad and I didn't want that? LOL But for some reason, maybe because I'm just in a different mental space, this season I'm actually enjoying so far. 9:11 in the beginning of the trailer you see Celebrimbor close doors of a room/holding cell with”Halbrand” in it. I’m guess he’ll do some sort of reveal to Celebrimbor that he isn’t this lowly Halbrand, but actually an emissary of the Valar with all his lies and deception. It looks like Galadriels finally tells the elves in Lindon, so maybe word has not or does not get back to Celebrimbor about this until it’s too late

If you think about it, the elves do recognize Halbrand when he "has the wig", but you have to understand that he does not present himself as a different person from Halbrand, but he introduces himself as Halbrand and after that he probably lies saying that he is a messenger of the Valar making that change of appearance that we see in the trailer. And then when they discover that he really is Sauron, he doesn't care about keeping that same appearance, but he changes his clothes. So all that "how is it possible that they don't recognize him", they actually do

Hugs Kritter! Love your reactions and I'm too so so excited for this 2d season. I too am a huge Tolkien fan, but came to the books late. Was introduced to them by my hubby, and we both introduced our kids to them as well. I've read the Silmarillion the Lost Children of Huron as well (via audiobook) and watched the movies several times. And my hubby's wedding ring, which I wear with mine around my neck since his passing 5 years ago, is THE Ring of Power, complete with the words in elvish. I'm so excited!!!

The letters are Elvish, but the language is that of Mordor. I have never understood why anyone would want to wear Sauron's Ring. As Tolkien wrote (Letters #343) to Sterling Lanier, "I had a similar disappointment when a drinking goblet arrived (from a fan) which proved to be of steel engraved with the terrible words seen on the Ring. I of course have never drunk from it, but use it for tobacco ash."

Very heavy on the Elves, this trailer. Glad to see they're not giving too much away with regard to other plots. Though...Eruption of Meneltarma a bit early? Are we seeing parts of Akallabeth in S2? Bombadil..*REALLY?* If that was him, then did we also see *Goldberry, the Daughter of the River?* Have to find out what people are saying because that guy didn't look grand enough to be a Blue Wizard. And notice, they only showed him from waist up. maybe his boots are a certain color? This does make me wonder, they're ripping through the timeline quite fast. What will we be seeing in S3-5?! How far ahead in the Appendices will we be going? Will we see the beginning of the 3rd age? This is what strikes me about this trailer: how much story is in it. Now I'm really asking questions. And I want to get back and see the journey of the rest of the Harfeet. I hope it isn't just the "wandering days" of proto-Frodo! I want to see in particular how the Harfeet go through future Rohan and pick up bits of proto -Rohirric in their language. I really hope they keep up with the "maps." Sorry i this reaction is all over the place, but if they really do have the whole story mapped out from beginning to end, all 5 seasons, then I wonder how and when (timeline-wise) they will wrap this up.

It’s definitely Tom, they released promotional images of him a couple months ago. Colors are a bit muted in this. But also, Ciran Hinds has been cast as another wizard. So we’re either getting blue wizards, or like some early forms of Gandalf and Saruman. Definitely hope it’s the former, but it will probably my be the latter
