Reading the comments about this scene just reinforces to me how exceptional withers West Wing is. This isn’t a movie, it isn’t a play, it’s a tv series. They rarely, if ever, shoot for this level of depth, subtlety, intelligence, or complexity. The fact that we’re discussing the ins and outs of this one scene, more than 20 years later, with such keen interest and attention to every single detail and aspect and interpretation, is testimony to how truly exceptional and (very😉) unique it is (pun very much intended).
