Interesting footage, but entire video promotes the mythology that rocket scientists in Peenemünde were innocent dreamers of Space rather than knowing participants in Nazi crimes like slave labor. It also pushes a deliberate misinterpretation of von Braun’s March 1944 Gestapo arrest as being about his war-weapon hesitancy, rather than part of a power play by the SS to take over the missile program. Sigh. What should we expect? Huntsville AL still has a civic center named after von Braun, so this video is part of that same mindset, firmly convinced that Wernher’s anti-communist patriotism and moon landing achievements fully rehabilitate him from his Nazi past…

Braun used slave Labour to help build Hitlers Vengeance Weapons... Hitler planned on sending thousands of Ballistic V2 missiles skyward towards allies bases in Britain. If operation Crossbow hadn't happened (helped by 2 Polish slave labourers who smuggled out Nazi plans to britain) those ballistic missile would have destroyed Cities and Factories that helped man and supply the Allied invasion. Despite destroying huge parts of the site, Killing Nazi scientists, workers and Slave labour, the site continued to improve the Ballistic missiles... Hitler had no intention of space travel Hitler killed millions between 33 and 44..... These "happy to work here" pensioners Knew what was being planned and made there, and it's heinous purposes

Can't believe the upbeat tone of that piece. These people worked for the most evil, despicable regime in human history, facilitated by the use of concentration camp inmates and slave labour. Typical pathetic response from that generation of Germans to say they shouldn't be held to account for the crimes of the Nazi regime. The fact is these people were either participants, enablers or bystanders to Nazis crimes. 5hey don't get to have another option. The absolute cheek of filming them laying a wreath to the 'victims ' of the air raid and no real mention of the victims of their beloved rocket 'project'. That programme is as morally questionable as the US rescuing Nazis for their own gain.

If the RAF bombing raid hit a concentration camp, it is a little dishonest to claim not knowing what was going on. What you could have done in this situation is a different matter.

Geez, you'd think 1942 in Peenemunde was just a fun day in peace time. Unbelievable the failure to mention in whose service and for what goals all this was destined for. Appalling.

Note how they consistently said and repeated how joyful their work was and how excited they were to making “spaceships” to go to the moon... I guess they might even believe it; in reality if they were there they knew exactly they were building weapons of mass destruction, and 100% chances are that they were all happy saluting the swastika and 100% indifferent at the hundreds of forced laborers working at the facility, malnourished, enslaved, shadows of the people they used to be

A great documentary ruined by what appears to be a stereotypically affected, presenter. Irony of the story; Hess, probably killed no one. Tried to arrange a peace with Britain. Locked up in Spandau until he committed suicide there decades later. Von Braun, killed around 9000 people : soldiers, civilians, men, women and children with his indiscriminate V2 rockets born of Hitler's "total war" philosophy. Probably 12000 forced labourers also died building his projects. Lauded pioneer of the US Space program. The politics of expediency.

That's what I call a REAL bloody irony, fella. Same as told us Rousseau, and later recalled Orwell: We human dipshits TEND TO forget that commies & nazis were on the top strictly via democracy.....

The primary reason for the V2 development was Hitler's crazed plan to deliver an ICBM atomic weapon to New York and Washington to destroy the US Government and herald the Fourth Reich. Space travel and exploration were not that important to the Nazi Regime even though von Braun had his own dreams of space flight. They later formed NASA to develop secret technology and ICBMs to fight a Cold War against their greatest threat... World Communism.

The German Boers created the very first camps where they kept British prisoners of war and British Cape farmers, then the British took them over. They did not summarily torture or exterminate prisoners. Boer Commandoes and their sympathisers were executed by firing squad after capture on the orders of Lord Kitchener and Lord Balfour. The old interned Boer men, women and children who died were very ill with dysentry and there was a famine and subsequent food shortage at the time so many died in the camps on both sides. Read the description from the diary by the famous Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and also Winston Churchill.
