Lucy Kitchen! I remember her talking about the Bradford Computer expertly and enthusiastically on the radio in the 1980s, when I was a kid. One sound per floppy disc, IIRC! I wonder what she did after that and how she is now! 🙂

@@sixtiesfan11 That Bradford design (and associated patent) was the only alternative for manufacturers to Allen's patent for digital organs. I gather that the Bradford design had a serious design flaw in that it could not handle polyphony well, and would hang/crash if too may stops were pulled while handsfull of notes were being played. I would have loved to see the innards of that organ.

I honestly don't think this sounds any worse than other brands of digital organs available in the late 80s or early 90s. I have heard a lot worse than this before! This is a very fascinating bit of digital organ history.

My family had a 2.5 PI Mk2 in the mid70s; and then I bought a 2000 Mk 2 as my first car...it would happily cruise all day at 80 mph (in Australia). I always loved the nose of the Mk 1 but the more time passes the more I prefer every inch of the Mk 1, both outside, and even the interior. All up I respond to the Mk 1 as being far more evocative of the car's "modern sixties" design soul, and for me, its style is more of a nostalgia trip for those times--when the world was so optimistic and in love with the new. Thanks for sharing your video.

I was there in the 1980s once the old school teachers left from the grammar days it went to the dogs. It was a very strict school back then as run by Mr Senior, with drills & inspections, house prefects & seniors. Segregated entrances for girls & boys & you did as you were told & didn't backchat or you would get the Cain you respected the teachers & didn't step out of line. Some of the new replacement teachers after the old guard retired were not as strict but due to lack of control in the late 1980s & the removal of the Cain kids were challenging teachers with abuse. Before then if you turned up without your Sports kit you ran In your underpants, if you turned up at the swimming baths at York street on Wednesdays without your trunks they made you swim naked & you didn't forget to bring your trunks again I'll tell you. There was nothing sinister about it but militaristic a bit like the army to put you on the straight a narrow with discipline something the kids of today know nothing about but with that said just before you left all they wanted to do was push you into mining, & steel industry for the boys. textiles & weaving or cloth industry for the girls & anything else was not recommended. Well instead I did something completely different I joined the fire & rescue service. Back then when you left school you had apprenticeships & a job for life. Not anymore.

Garry Silvester it's spelt 'Cane' (are you sure you went to Holgate??).. It went to the "dogs" when they closed Honeywell(Raley) school around 1988 when most of that school transferred to Holgate, Kingstone or Priory.. n.b. I'm sure such punishments ended well before the 1980s

This is a great upload. i wonder why and when they decided to paint all the wooden panels along the corridors that awful blue..they used to be varnished dark wood as I recall... I think it's a travesty that they got away with demolishing a historical building .. ... I'm sure it could've been put to use in the same fashion as the former girls grammar school has been. To have demolished Holgate/ Barnsley Grammar is a crime.. cheers for uploading... saw my old house registration class room g12..or was it 11

I am not a member of the church where the organ came from but I did video it and put in on youtube to try and save it :) Thank you for taking the organ and I hope all goes well with the installation. I will get in contact with the church organist and find out more information. If I can find any more film of the organ that I took I will add it to KZbin. The organ was probably built in Sheffield city early last century. I have been to your wonderful country several times Berlin Munich Bonn and other places. regards Steve

sixtiesfan11 Hello Steve, Thanks for answering. But I'm rarely on you-tube, so it's easier for me to write per email or talk by phone. Could you get me a phone-number of the (former) church organist? I'd love to talk to him about that organ. I've also been to your wonderful country (at least twice I think) and we got a National-Trust-Ticket and visited lots of beautiful castles and gardens etc. Our Minister/Preacher is currently in England for some sort of sabbatical and studying (Birmingham) - she might visit Rotherham some time.
